Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

I’m kind of here, as well, with seeing how long it takes line men to see the field. I think they need and are trying to find a blended strategy here.
I’m there as well. It seems much easier to identify talented kids at QB, RB, WR and in the secondary. So I think the best strategy is to take the OL who you think play here in the area (3 of those). Then you go get 2-3 in the portal who have proven themselves at other schools.

I think with the OL and DL you should let these smaller schools basically be our farm system. Sounds terrible but there’s a lot of good lineman at places like NW, Nevada etc that I’m sure we can get to another level.

Paging @RB07OSU. Is Boise the next big thing?
It is one of the quickest growing cities in the US, we've seen a crazy amount of growth in the 11+ years. It's become one of the most desirable cities to live in, but please don't tell a Californian is all we ask (that has become a slogan here). And I can see why for very many reasons unrelated to this thread that would go in the general interest thread.

As to Nelson, I am friends with several of the tied-in BSU supporters and they unanimously said he came in lazy, entitled and just assumed he would win the job. Then he got beat out by a no-name QB that is 5'10 at max. Not a BSU thread but I will just say I don't think he will land anywhere better than a Rice type of program. I do know OSU (or any top program) would not touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I am hoping our Portal priorities go: (1) OL (especially LT), (2) DE (obvious with Sawyer/JT leaving and the recent misses/decommits at DE), (3) CB (we have some great ones coming in/on the roster, but I want a senior proven commodity if there is one out there), (4) TE (very iffy on Thurman at this stage, but Roberts and Lennon have huge promise), and (5) kicker and punter that can actually do their job (that actually may be #1).

Not RB, but Thurman is arguably the most talented TE on the roster next year. If there's a guy who could convert to OL, that would be Christian, but he'll fill the Kacmarek blocking TE, role, IMO.
I share the exact same view here, Thurman has unlimited potential but needs to work on his pass catching skills in a big way and needs to develop his blocking skills. I view him as a very likely late bloomer type and Christian I like staying at TE, but as a block-first type of guy.

To the point of the thread, I think the Portal has to be the answer to LT for right now. Lowe will get there, but that would banking a lot on a true freshman for the upcoming season. Definitely not unheard of for a true frosh to play LT, but it is a rarity that we cannot and should not rely on after the Simmons announcement.
