Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

So uh…lots of options.

Man what a crazy mess to wade through for coaches and programs. There’s going to what, 3000 players across all D1 levels? Need a small department (2-3 talent evaluators) to keep tabs.
Yeah, thats why you're seeing a number of schools devoting departments to solely NIL. And to think, you've only mentioned D1, players. Juco, D2 and D3 players also will be hitting the portal as well, and that also increases the options.

I personally haven't seen any names that would make me interested as of yet. And even if he were to enter, I wouldn't want Arch Manning near this program... And I haven't seen any names of the caliber of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, etc enter
I think between McCord, Brown and Kienholz you can have a very good QB room. And then throw Noland in the mix to learn

What say you, @RB07OSU ?
I think we stick with the guys we have in the room already (plus Noland here soon) if Day/Dennis actually let an open competition happen. We have a a really good QB in the program already...that may be McCord if he improves in the offseason and ditto for Brown...Kienholz has all the attributes I want in a QB and brings more mobility. Noland is only a frosh next year, but that southpaw can sling it and is also above-average athletically. Assuming there are no transfers, bringing a 5th QB in doesn't make sense to me with how we have recruited QBs and what is out there in the portal currently.

I have seen Finn from Toledo mentioned and I think pretty highly of the kid, he is an exciting player. But looking at the stat sheet, here is Finn: 65.1% completion rate, 2,384 yards passing, 21 TDs to 8 INTs, and a 69.7 QBR...that ain't great playing in the MAC. Let's compare to McCord: 65.8% completion rate, 3,170 yards passing, 24 TDs to 6 INTs, and and 84.1 QBR. You could argue that Finn would be better with better talent around him. I would take him if he wants in to compete for the job, but he might not be an improvement is all I am saying.

As to the Williams, Maye, etc. conversation, they are all going pro and that leaves very little in the portal at QB (to your point). Arch Manning can come to OSU on the one condition that he gets no NIL. We don't need Ewers 2.0 here again with a good QB room. Even then I am hesitant, I think the headache isn't worth the potential upside. As we currently sit, Finn would be the only one worth looking at.

Michigan is going to hammer the portal this offeseason (may have as many as 43 scholarships available based on underclassmen who may declare). The biggest differnece IMO, is the kids they bring in this cycle will mostly be 1 year rentals. The fact that so many of these kids have already utilized the free covid year is huge in leveling out the playing field.

There's also huge risk to bringing in a 1 year starter, as it directly impacts the growth of players behind them who want PT, and may transfer in the second portal window to find greener pastures. Without the covid year, it's harder for kids to stay patient.

This will be interesting to watch, for sure.

My problem with Manning, is that he'd be a FAR worse distraction than Ewers. I remember after the loss to Oregon with Stroud, people wanting Ewers to play. I think the 1st INT of the season, boos will come down and fans will want Manning. That name is too polarizing. Especially for a kid who is not that good. Manning played in one of the weakest divisions in LA and couldn't dominate. Kienholz played in the strongest division in ND, and absolutely destroyed. Day and OSU don't need anymore distractions if they can help it. Let Manning be a headache somewhere else. And this is no knock on the kid personally, but his name will be very polarizing wherever he goes.

to me the QB room should be up 100% for grabs. id love for Kienholz to grab it by the horns

Four Indiana Starting Offensive Linemen Enter Transfer Portal

Indiana's next head coach will have to rebuild and re-recruit the entire offensive line after recent transfer portal news.

Since Indiana fired Tom Allen on Sunday, four starting offensive linemen have entered the transfer portal: left tackle Carter Smith, center Zach Carpenter, right guard Matthew Bedford and right tackle Kahlil Benson.

That is exactly what they are going to do. Particularly along the lines of scrimmage.
