Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Caleb Etienne, Oklahoma State's starting left tackle last season, announced Friday that he will enter the transfer portal when it reopens Saturday.

Etienne was one of two offensive players to start every game for Oklahoma State. The 6-7, 330-pound senior was a junior college transfer in 2021, starting three games while preserving a redshirt.

Texas A&M center in transfer portal

Matthew Wykoff, a three-star recruit in the 2021 class who started nine games last season, is in the portal. He allowed one sack in 545 total snaps.

Wykoff is the 26th player from Texas A&M to enter the portal since December.

First-team All-AAC OL to leave Houston

Cam'Ron Johnson started all 13 games for Houston at left guard, not surrendering a sack in 554 pass-block attempts. Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman who was originally a three-star recruit in the 2019 class, is a redshirt sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining.

Really need to hit on a few of these kids. 1 would be great but 2 really would give us a lot of options.

Don’t think we need a center or guard.
A tackle, on the other hand, would be a “yes”.
I won’t be surprised if we get one, but will be surprised if they’re “savior” quality. I’m guessing we will need to develop the guys we have now. Going to see a lot of blitzing early in the year.
Yeah probably no savior status like Jonah Jackson was for us, but guys that have performed pretty well with experience, so at least bring them in to compete if we can get 1-2 of them. And that isn't because of the spring game, OL look notoriously bad in that game every year and fall camp is going to be crucial for development. But we knew OT was a position of need and while I think guys like Zen, Tshabola and Fitzpatrick could be ready by opening kickoff to hopefully sure up the other side across from Fryar, having a tested veteran come aboard can only help. One thing I think you can count on is we will be leaving a TE/RB in to help block the edge blitzes early on in the season.

I mean we should take the best options. If there's a G or C that is really good then take them and push Jackson out to LT for example.

That said, the kid from OK State I read only gave up 1 sack all year and the kid from AM was similar if I recall. The OK State kid specifically looks really good considering he's also 6 foot 7 and has a ton of experience at LT. We don't need much in the portal but damn if we can shore up that OL we have everything else.

Give any of our QBs time with the skill we have and they'll get it done. Just have to give them time though.

OK State kid is at the top of my list, had the measurables and results of a LT and I think Fryar is more of a natural RT. Plus we might have an in with Knowles on the staff? Not sure there but I would be going all out for the OK State guy. Obviously it's really early but Cutler seems like a depth guy, not a solution.

It is hard not to think the NIL is causing many of these portal players when in the past it seems super rare for a kid to leave a program as a starter. Maybe as grad transfer but that was also somewhat rare. Clearly the top programs are now going after top guys on crappy teams (hear small and poor programs) to fill the gaps on their roster.
I had originally thought that the NIL and portal would flatten it a bit in college football but it seems obvious that the best programs are figuring out how to use both the NIL and Portal to create separation to the rest of college football. No down year due to any recruiting misses because you just go out into the market place and find a qualified and quality replacement.

USC trying to fix their Grinch issue by just paying bags?

Poor coaching washes talent advantage. Saw that enough going over Grinch at both tOSU and watching a ton of snaps from his Oklahoma defenses.

I struggle to think that Oil Money A&M is having NIL issues. But when you have schools offering you comparable money and to not play for a sucky coach? That might be the difference.
