Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Austin Palmer Aune; born September 6, 1993) is an American football quarterback for the North Texas Mean Green and former professional baseball player. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2012 MLB draft, where he played six seasons in the minor leagues before being released. He then enrolled at North Texas, and is the oldest starting quarterback in FBS football at the age of 29.

Aune played six seasons of minor league baseball in the Yankees farm system. During his tenure in the minor leagues, he recorded 20 home runs and 148 RBIs. After bouncing between several High-A and Class-A teams and switching from shortstop to outfielder, Aune had a career batting average of .226 and was released by the Tampa Yankees following the 2017 season.

In 5 seasons at North Texas he threw for 7,324 yards, 56 TDs with 28 INTs.

A true sophomore in 2022, the 6-foot-5, 260-pound tight end caught 30 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns for Maryland this season. The Pennsylvania native was a three-star recruit in the 2021 class and appeared in all 13 games for the Terps as a true freshman.

Dippre caught at least one pass in every game for Maryland during the regular season, and hauled in four balls for 30 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State when the two teams met in College Park on Nov. 19. Less than two weeks after that, though, Dippre announced he would enter the transfer portal.

With a Pro Football Focus grade of 69.6 on the season, Dippre ranks 37th in the country among tight ends. That's one spot ahead of starting Ohio State tight end Cade Stover, who caught 35 catches for 399 yards and five scores through the first 12 games this year, and has a decision to make about whether or not he'll turn pro after the season.

The portal should add a couple fields on the data entry screen... like "What school are you going to?" rather than this fake mystery like the implication 'I'm going to start looking at best options for me' bogus stuff
Personally I'd like to see addl fields for "who has offered you what 'NIL' to come?" .. add to the "NO SHIT?" aura

Hartmann was rumored to be heading to ND on Saturday, before he even entered the portal... :roll2:

Another miss, but I'm sure Day did the right things.

Sources: Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman enters transfer portal

Notre Dame is the strong favorite to land Hartman. The Fighting Irish have a need at quarterback with the transfer of Drew Pyne to Arizona State. According to a source, Hartman is seeking a high-end situation to keep him from declaring for the NFL draft and will take a week to evaluate all his options.

Sources: SMU's Tanner Mordecai likely transferring to Wisconsin

SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai entered the transfer portal Thursday night and is expected to land at Wisconsin, sources told ESPN.

Mordecai had 7,152 passing yards with 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions the past two seasons for SMU, setting a team record with 13 games of 300 passing yards or more. He began his career at Oklahoma, spending three seasons as a backup before transferring to SMU.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pound Mordecai would become the second quarterback transfer for Wisconsin under new coach Luke Fickell. The Badgers also added Nick Evers from Oklahoma, ESPN's No. 166 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

I'll say it is pretty rare for 1 school to get 2 QB transfers the same season. Which begs the questions: Did Evers know Fickell was still recruiting more QBs and has he officially enrolled at Cheese yet?

Column: The College football calendar needs a retrofit

Innovation without regulation breeds chaos — at least that’s a hypothesis we might draw from the recent changes impacting the college football universe. Many of the changes had the brightest intentions, like opening the transfer portal and NIL opportunities for college athletes, expanding the college football postseason, or even an early signing period for high school athletes.

Now, with several seasons with the transfer portal under our belt, three semesters of NIL deals wrapping up and an agreement for an expanded College Football Playoff, we can take a breath and look at some of the unintended consequences that have resulted from these — and more — changes.

And if there was a season where all of this chaos accumulated and exploded, it’s right now. Merry Christmas to all.

That’s because we are in the middle of bowl season, two weeks into the transfer portal and over a week from the start of the College Football Playoff. The Heisman was awarded the weekend before last. Moreover, the early signing period for high school athletes begins today.

With all these events coinciding, it’s nearly impossible for athletes at the high school or collegiate levels to make informed decisions. In some cases, it can be beneficial to make the first move a la Michigan’s Cade McNamara transferring to Iowa where he will almost assuredly win the starting role. However, in most situations, there is fog of new freshmen inbound, undeclared draft prospects and coaching carousel changes that make the transfer portal information system muddy at best.

First, we must acknowledge that the transfer portal is a good thing, but it’s not a panacea. Many players have found new programs that fit their skills or outlook better. Many others did not find a new home and lost out on a scholarship as a result. The number of undergraduate players entering the transfer portal nearly doubled from 2020 to 2021, and an estimated 16% of all FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2021. Of the more than 2,500 undergraduate and graduate transfers, just 54% of scholarship transfers successfully enrolled at a new school.

To state the obvious, that means that 46% of transfers gave up a college scholarship and did not find a new one, which has serious developmental and financial consequences. Players might be looking to make a move for a variety of reasons (coaching change, not earning a starting role or even homesickness) and coming out the other side with a scholarship might not even be their priority. However, for those who are, while high-profile transfers get a lot of coverage (looking at you, Caleb Williams), most transfers are not on that level.

Interesting stat....

Just sayin': That's probably a good idea.....
At what point are the adults in the room going to realize that the current situation is bad for the student athletes? In some situations the adults that have been coaching for 10-20 years and know what they are doing should have more power than the players whose brains are still very reward driven.

This reminds me of our current situation at work. Feels like we are getting in a bidding war for new hires. It’s difficult to get these 22 year old kids to put in a solid days work because they can jump to another company in a heartbeat and probably turn it into a 10-20% raise. Just really basic things like come in to work and stay here for 9 hours and they start complaining. Can’t do anything to piss them off because I need them more than they need me.

Some thing with these players. Some of them are going to excel and are transferring for the right reasons, like a change of system, school or to step up in competition. But it seems the majority are setting themselves up for failure. Almost half of them didn’t find a new school is insane.

This is why you have to sign a contract to join the military. Imagine if officers couldn’t hold their team accountable.

Sounds almost like the days in Silicon Valley. Person goes to lunch, then meets with his boss, and says he's leaving for XXX company - with a large raise and corner office (?). Sometimes were hired for their corporate knowledge, which is unlike college football. As well, many of these 'lunchtime' hires didn't work out, but there's always someone willing to pick them up. In college, it's not so cut and dried. Don't know current number, but 1,300 in portal seems to resonate. Not certain that there's that many places for them to land. Chasing rainbows can be extremely vexing.

This is the natural result of not investing in workforce and deleting pensions.
Companies started the disloyalty with stuff like "right to get laid off". And lowball 401ks that i can consolidate and port between umpteen employers.

Now they're seeing how it plays out long term ... which is us using companies for the resume xp and getting a promotion with better benefits every 2-3 years.
The sweet spot is not getting paid so much that we're first to get fired when layoff rounds happen.
But that's almost always boomers, maybe some X now.
And by the time i get to that point, my house will be paid off, my lifelong car is already paid off, and ill be able to freelance from S America and SEA while renting the property.
The corps will still be crashing economy every 10 years and getting all their bad "free market" decisions bailed out by taxpayers. The goal is to have assets that ride the inflation instead of 401ks that get hollowed out.

To bring it back to CFB.... Unions are a necessary evil. A Players Union fixes a lot of this. It'd be great if we could trust employers - be it SiValley, Corporations, or Universities - to act with any degree of humanity.
But that has proven over and over to not be possible. Unions are a necessary evil.
