Lonnie Johnson (DB Houston Texans)

Andrean works out early kinks to beat West Side

. . .

The Cougars are defensively challenged but they are an offensive dynamo.

They have enough big playmakers — Lonnie Johnson, Jon Vea Johnson and Ramone Atkins —that they can give any team fits. Plus, they play a spread offense.

. . .

After the Johnson TD reception, which put West Side ahead 14-0, the 59ers defense adjusted — to a degree.

They came out and pressured Atkins, and kept him in the pocket, and they were able to contain Lonnie Johnson — at least to a degree.

I for one am certainly rooting for this kid, for football success, and in life. He has an extremely rough upbringing in a city like Gary, where he's already dealt with more death at 17 than most deal with in their lives. And a football field that wasn't even adequate to play their first playoff game, west side was still able to win their game. Lonnie, didn't do much on offense but had a decent game on defense.

Interesting. I know he plays safety and wr in high school. I think he wants to play wr in college though. Maybe the staff told him earlier in the process that he'll get a shot as a wr, but now is being told he'll be a safety? I'm guessing it's not a coincidence that this is coming out during our bye week when the coaches have more time to recruit.

Darn. Hopefully that means we are going to get a great player if he leaves. My only thing I do not like about the staff is that I hate to see them accept a commitment from someone who's wanted to be a Buckeye and then tell him to look elsewhere (assuming that is the situation).
