Those women were kept in captivity for a decade and subjected to treatment that's beyond the imagination of decent human beings. They faced what could have been a lifetime in captivity bravely until their rescue.

Castro was only in jail. It's a lifetime of captivity but there are at least some people looking after you and treating you with the minimum of basic human dignity, which in and of itself was far more than he deserved. In the face of that, he only lasted a month. ONE FUCKING MONTH.

What a coward. It hardly seems like justice to me - death was the easy way out.

Unfortunately, short of putting a bullet in his brain, he was going to live a full, if isolated, life in jail and we were all going to pay for him to do so. He was never going to be in Gen Pop and he certainly was never going to actually feel the pain and live through the hell he put those women through.

Hanging yourself as he did is a slow, torturous way to go. It's not like he snapped his neck when he hung up there.

Yep, not with bed sheets (snapping of the neck).

One thing that stuck with me is him (Castro) thanking the victims at his sentencing. It was kind of the last thing he said (before being escorted out).

I don't know why you would thank someone you held captive and continuously raped.

Expected cost of their imprisonment over their life expectancy
then offer to pay next of kin 25% of that figure
