Long Beach St +20.5 at tOSU (ov/un 138.5) Sat noon BTN

Alma mater of former Columbus East standout Ed Ratliff comes to Columbus.

Watched a little of the Long Beach/Syracuse game last night and while Syracuse won by 20+ I would not sleep on the boys from Long Beach State. From what I saw of them, they are pretty athletic but not great shooters however the Syracuse zone could have had something to do with that. Anyhow, this will be a better test than Northern Kentucky and UKMC .

LBSU has won 22+ the last couple years but they are really struggling to score this season, 256th in points, 318th in shooting percentage.

They lost at least two, maybe 3 key players off those teams. Casper Ware was a strong lead guard for them, and last year was his senior year. Larry Anderson also put up a lot of points and he's no longer with them as well. There may have been another guy who was a good scorer for them last year that isn't there anymore but I can't remember.

• Matchup to watch: Center Dan Jennings had 20 points, five offensive rebounds and three blocked shots in 29 minutes in the 49ers’ loss at Syracuse on Thursday. The Buckeyes are not nearly as large on the interior as the Orange. Evan Ravenel and Amir Williams have to scrap.

• Notable: Ohio State has won 35 consecutive nonconference games in Columbus (including games in St. John and Nationwide arenas) and 124 in a row against teams from outside the six major conferences. … Long Beach State lost four starters from a team that reached the NCAA Tournament last season and is without three Division I transfers who become eligible later this month. … The 49ers are coached by former Minnesota coach Dan Monson.

• Next: Savannah State, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Value City Arena

They've also got 2 guys out with injuries and 3 guys out with eligibility issues. Definitely depleted at the moment.
