London Olympics: "We're pretty much ready..."

With those two medals (gold & silver) from the Decathlon, U.S.A now has 39 golds (two more than China) and 90 overall medals, 11 ahead of China (79). China can potentially medal in two more events today (women's javelin & gold medal match in women's flyweight taekwondo).

Hope Solo was brilliant today, she made a number of remarkable saves. There's no way they win the gold today without her.

What's in a Gold Medal? Not gold.
The last solid gold medal was given in 1912.
"Gold" medals now are........silver. With a gold coating.

2. Roger Federer, $52.7 million
3. Kobe Bryant, $52.3 million
4. Carmelo Anthony, $22.9 million
5. Novak Djokovic, $20.6 million

From random article why long jumpers are regressing...
In 2010, he signed a three-year contract with Puma for a rumored $32 million. At the time, the Guardian called the deal the biggest sponsorship in track and field history.

Somebody needs to make a gif of that crash, LOL. One guy made it to the first turn cleanly and then cruised the rest of the way because everybody else in the heat piled up.

I honestly don't see the point of this competition though - it's basically a race to the first turn. Provided there are no crashes, the rest of the course appears to be a formality since nobody gets overtaken.
