Let me ax y'all a question

Anderson it is...

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...anderson-agrees-to-become-next-arkansas-coach
Mike Anderson has agreed in principle to leave Missouri and become the next men's basketball coach at Arkansas, a source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday.

An official announcement is expected soon.

Anderson was heavily involved in the Arkansas search over the weekend -- so much so that a source told CBSSports.com late Saturday that the two sides were close to reaching an agreement. Discussions continued Monday despite a report from ESPN.com that stated Anderson had already decided to remain at Missouri. Everything intensified Tuesday and Wednesday, at which point Arkansas secured a commitment from Anderson -- the man who assisted Nolan Richardson for 17 seasons in Fayetteville before landing his first head coaching job at UAB.

Anderson coached Missouri for five seasons.

He made the NCAA tournament each of the past three years.

I'm not entirely excited about Mike Anderson returning to Bud Walton, but it's probably a significant upgrade over what we had. I'll support him and the team like always.

I was rooting for us to hire Buzz Williams from Marquette.

Any excuse to post this...

I don't mean any offense at all in saying this, but Arkansas is not a step up from Marquette when it comes to basketball, IMO.

No offense taken, but I'd probably argue that point with you.

We both have 1 NC and 1 Runner up.

We have 6 Final Fours to their 3, and 10 Eights to their 6, etc.

All things considered, it might be a lateral move.

Regardless, the point is moot.

Missouri was the undefeated (in the) Big Eight Champion that year.

Arkansas was National Champion that year.

120-68.

Eh, the on-court achievements historically are likely a wash or slightly in Akransas' favor. However, of late, Marquette has certainly been the better team. And it's in the premier basketball conference. I just don't see a coach moving from a very good program in the best college basketball conference to a sub-par team in one of the weaker AQ basketball conferences.

I am going to school at MU and really don't know what to think about Anderson leaving. I'm glad to see him go after this terrible season. His team had a lot of good returning players and they couldn't win a game on the road. When they were playing well the "fastest 40 minutes that never left Columbia" was fun as hell to watch. I thought if Anderson stayed and next year the team didn't do anything that he would probably be shown the door.

The first step Arkansas made toward hiring Mike Anderson as its basketball coach took place on March 1, 2009, when the school honored former coach Nolan Richardson and his 1994 national championship team.

In 2002, after 17 years, Arkansas fired Richardson, and the split was like an acrimonious divorce. Richardson later sued the school for discrimination, lost, and turned his back on the program he had built into national power. But after former athletic director Frank Broyles?who had fired Richardson?resigned in 2008 and was replaced by Jeff Long, Arkansas reached out to Richardson, who checked his pride at the door of Bud Walton Arena and allowed himself and his team to once again bask in the glory of their championship season.

~~~
Arkansas needs Mike Anderson. The state is basketball mad, but no one would have known that by looking at the empty seats in Bud Walton. Attendance has been slowly declining since Richardson?s heyday. A building that once held 20,000 screaming fans became a ghost town. You could practically see the tumbleweeds rolling across the court.
The Southeastern Conference needs Mike Anderson, too. More specifically, it needs Arkansas basketball to be good. No one who was in the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center on March 13, 1992 will ever forget what happened that day. Arkansas fans, eager to take in their first SEC Tournament, had been slowly drifting into the building, unnoticed by anyone who hadn?t witnessed the phenomenon before. And when their beloved Razorbacks walked into the building, the fans stood up, thousands strong, and began calling the Hogs.
?It was amazing,? SEC associate commissioner Mark Womack told this writer for the book, String Music: Inside the Rise of SEC Basketball. ?People just looked around the arena in awe. Nobody had ever seen anything like it.?
OK, so Arkansas hires Mike Anderson to come home and take over the program after nine years of wandering the wilderness at UAB and Missouri.
Expectations are already off the charts in Hog Land.
They already have us dominating the West and fighting Kentucky and Florida for SEC supremacy each year.
Arkansas fans aren't known for being the most rational fans in the country.
Even so, we've got a decent group of core players, a top five recruiting class that is, so far, holding together despite the coaching change.
I wasn't that excited about Anderson, but I have to say, I'm a little caught up in it. Razorbacks held a Press Conference/Pep Rally on Saturday that was pretty exciting to see.
At the very least, I'm hoping that Arkansas will be relevant again.
I think Arkansas is a step up the same way Ohio State is a step up from say......St Johns or Villanova. Facilities, good tradition, and booster support are advantages Arkansas has over Marquette...I think D Wade is in everyones mind as of late
