Not really much difference between North and South other than the major cities they align with (North with NYC and South with Philadelphia). Central Jersey is just forgotten about, other than being the countryI've been told to distinguish north and south Jersey, because they're supposedly that different with a central Jersey running like a line across the state.
Ever since I heard that, my brain forgot the state even existed.

Elmendorf Afb (Anchorage) is actually a great assignment. Eilson AFB (near Fairbanks), not so much.

How about Shemya AFB? I remember (years ago) a guy told me they sold t-shirts there that said "Shemya is not the end of the earth, but you can see it from there".....

I've never been, but I've heard the cool thing about Eareckson Air Station (on Shemya Island) is the ropes they put up between the buildings in the winter so that you can a) find the buildings during blizzards, and b) make it to the other building so that the wind (which never stops) doesn't blow you off the island.

What happened to my ¤cash?
Had a friend who was stationed at the missile base in Minot, ND (they called it Mind-rot). They had the same rope system between buildings. He suggested that there was a third application for the ropes... that is, if someone showed up missing, you went out and ‘ran the ropes’ to find the frozen body.
Crazy what you guys who have served have to put up with. Thank you. Sincerely.

Eye to the future, honoring the past
If anyone wants to know what the hate of the state of Kansas means to many - and by many, I mean me - I was stationed down in Riley for 3 years.
Example - one of my former squad leaders who came in from Korea. He was a family man with kids, gung ho, all about team.
Guy went from that to getting court-martialed and out of the military in 9 months after being exposed to the suck that is the armpit of America's Army.

So, that was something that I had on my shoulders growing up. Les Miles told me I could play cornerback (but) I wasn’t really in full position at receiver yet.
