Les Miles, on LSU players going to bars: ‘I’m cutting it off’

502853018-e1452057677164.jpg

An off-field incident involving an LSU football player will have ramifications for his teammates moving forward. Probably.

Tight end Dillon Gordon was stabbed multiple times, including at least once in the chest, during an altercation at a notorious bar near the LSU campus Monday night. While Gordon remains hospitalized, he sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

However, Gordon’s head coach has (again?) made an executive decision as to his players frequenting drinking establishments in the future.

“I’m cutting it off,” Les Miles said when it comes to his players’ access to nightclubs and the like. “It’s just not worth it. The reason you go out is because you want social interaction. Social interaction can take place at home, at class, can take place at a number of places. You don’t have to go to a fight nightclub.”

Interestingly, Miles added that what’s seemingly a new edict has “been an old rule,” although not very stringently enforced, apparently.

In August of 2011, starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson as well as a teammate were charged with felonies stemming from an incident outside of a bar. Two years later, star running back Jeremy Hill was charged with battery following an incident outside of a bar. This past year, defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao was arrested on battery and robbery charges following an incident outside of a bar.

Just sayin': Good luck trying to ban football players from bars.

It worked at Wilmington College during the season. I mean, how different can WC be from LSU?

that particular bar is bad news.
every one of those incidents listed in the article happened at the same bar.

it's one of those places that you're pretty much guaranteed to find trouble even if you ain't looking for it.

Bars don't beat up people. People* beat up people.

*Especially people who are on LSU's football team, or so it seems.

oh I'm not excusing our players in anyway on this.
each one was involved in some way in incidents that could have been avoided.

just pointing out that going to that bar specifically and the are known as Tigerland in general is typically not a good move.

there was an article recently in Baton Rouge paper about the crime rate in that complex.

people outside of the area only hear about it when LSU is involved because nobody gives two shits about the average college shmuck getting his ass whipped in a bar fight. But the reality is that place didn't get its reputation by accident.

I wish LSU players would get the hint and just stay the hell away from Tigerland.

I really wasn't disagreeing with you. The Snark to Serious ratio in my posts usually runs about 99:1.

Certainly, environment can play a huge role in events. Odds don't tend to come out even in, say, chances of being knifed at a biker bar vs. a night at the ballet.

LSU fan in Meltdown Time thread said: All we need is peanuts, hay and elephant [Mark May] for this 3 ringed circus

LSU's problem is that the last few years the "elephant [Mark May]" has been winning:

Haven't looked at the all time record, but I'm fairly sure it's tipped heavily in Alabama's favor and I can't imagine the Alabama pres. Worrying about dropping dollars on the football program vs education needs and responbilities.

yeah our record against Bama is pretty brutal.

our historical ranking in the SEC would be a lot prettier if not for that.
yeah our overall record against Tennessee also sucks, but we don't play them near enough for it to have a huge impact historically.

Florida is the only other team we play every year that has a winning record against us. They're 3 game lead over us is most thanks to their absolute best decade in history coinciding with our absolute worst.
