Les Miles (grass eater)

Looks like Les is still checking out the details of the situation before making a final decision, but LSU has released a strong statement about the bar fight.

After this statement, I can't see how they can let Jefferson play against Oregon.

Just for the hell of it, I'm guessing that this will end up as a 2-game suspension.

And the 4 folks that ended up in the hospital have indicated that they're going to press charges.

Miles: LSU players' involvement in bar fight 'unacceptable'

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU coach Les Miles says players have "been involved in behavior that's unacceptable to me" after starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and several unidentified teammates were implicated in a fight at a local bar early Friday morning.

Miles addressed the media about the incident for the first time Saturday. A group of 22 players who make up the fourth-ranked Tigers' Unity Council accompanied Miles for a terse 6 1/2-minute session that included an apology from senior offensive lineman Josh Dworaczyk.

"I can tell you that the last couple of days have been miserable for us, that we've been involved in behavior that's unacceptable to me, certainly unacceptable to our team -- guys that broke team rules and violated curfew," Miles said. "I can tell you and assure you that this will not happen again. I can tell you that there's a remorseful team here. "I personally want to apologize for the actions of my team."

Miles said a "relatively large group" was involved in the incident, mentioning senior lineman T-Bob Hebert and Jefferson by name. Miles said all team members were accounted for at a 10:30 p.m. curfew check Thursday night.

No charges have been filed, nor have there been any arrests. The Baton Rouge Police Department's investigation was ongoing Saturday.

Police spokesman Sgt. Don Stone said four people were taken to local hospitals after the fight, none of them football players. Stone also said the four people taken for medical attention indicated they intended to press charges.

Felony charges of second degree battery for Jefferson and Davenport.

Oh Noes!

The report says that Jefferson and his teammates will face battery charges. Specifically, Jefferson and offensive tackle Chris Davenport will be charged with second degree battery. Defensive tackle Josh Downs, a starter, and wide receiver Jarvis Landry will be facing a simple battery charge. Simple battery is just throwing a punch or slapping somebody, and it's a misdemeanor.

That's not the case with second degree battery, which is a felony charge. It's a charge that is usually reserved for instances in which the victim suffers some kind of injury like a broken bone or needs to be hospitalized. According to the Baton Rouge police, four people had to check into the hospital to be treated for injuries after the fight.

I'm pretty sure the guys in the hospital are having a miserable time too......

The interesting angle here is that it doesn't seem that Kelly is going to suspend the Oregon QB for the LSU game for his role in the weed car incident. Imagine the outrage if Miles suspends Jefferson, Kelly lets the Oregon QB (Thomas?) play, and Oregon wins.

so by that definition, if you punch somebody and they go to the cops, it's a misdemeanor simple battery. But if you punch a person and they go to the hospital, even for a routine exam, it's felonious second degree battery?

false. at least not yet.

Baton Rouge PD says they haven't even questioned the kids yet.
they will be questioned along with other witnesses. there have been no decisions to arrest anyone yet.

Not saying they ain't gonna get charged with it, just saying that hasn't been determined.
