thread is full of surly old men
then enlighten us, oh wise one.

I get why millions are obsessed with sharing every inane detail about their day. People do that at work, parties & on the phone all of the time. This just protects them from people walking away, hanging up or avoiding them altogether.

What I don't get is why on earth anyone would want to follow all of this useless babbling. I could see following what a significant other or child is doing, but all of my friends?

It's the email forwarding of today's generation.

Twitter is the most pointless craze I can remember in my lifetime.

Twitter is what one calls a time-using good, as opposed to a time-savings good. The people who use it usually have lots of time on their hands and less cognitive stimulation than they would like. I believe it will disappear within a few years, as people who don't fit that profile become disenchanted with the endless inane updates.

i'm not going to write a dissertation on the legitimacy and relevance of social media.. but let me just say there's more to it than "going to take a [censored]." .. "ok i chose the cleanest stall." .. "ok [censored] coming out" .. "think i'm done" .. "no i'm not" .. "whew that was a nice wipe." .. "hands washed" .. "back to work." ..

in other words, slap bracelets were worse.
