Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

I can’t find a single article where anyone was specifically wanting LeBron to say anything

But you DID see articles from people asking the NBA and its stars to speak up, right? That’s the entire point.

Whether Lebron was specifically named or not is irrelevant.

Why do people want them to speak up now after not wanting to hear anything from them on social issues before?

That’s a Martin Luther King Jr quote on Martin Luther King Day...

That is true. And LBJ is quoting it as something important, which it is -- but now when fighting injustice elsewhere hurts him financially, he wants nothing to do with it. It's hypocrisy. And that's my biggest gripe.

I've got no issue with athletes/celebrities using (or not using) their platforms to support causes that matter to them. Put don't pretend to be something you aren't.

Because Hong Kong is rioting and the NBA is profiting off of China. It’s ok for the press to ask. It’s also a situation where you can either offer no comment or you can offer a comment. Once you offer a comment, you can expect repercussions. Admittedly, offering no comment says something as well.

It’s all disingenuous. The same exact people telling them to shut up and dribble are the same people bashing them for not commenting on China the way they want them to.

It’s phony. I’ve always said people aren’t mad about politics in sports, just politics they don’t agree with.

They are not the same people at all. There are a select few Fox OPINION people who say shit up and dribble. The rest of the media would prefer they talk, because that makes news easier.

I’d certainly agree that folks only dislike politics in sports when they disagree, but social issues are coming to the forefront more and more. Meanwhile celebrities are often seen as having more sway on those issues. So it is something that comes with the territory.

Honestly, you cannot expect to make billions off of China and also expect that no one cares while people are rioting in the streets. Meanwhile, none of this is killing LeBron or anyone else in the league. It’s uncomfortable, but they’ll survive.

Saying it’s only a few fox opinion people is underselling it. Because, again, those just so happen to be the people who opposed their stance at this time. Please believe the other side would say the same things if they didn’t agree.

Now it’s you being disingenuous. There are OPINION people that say shut up and play. The rest of the media is happy to get a quote.

Fans? As you’ve noted, they only care about politics when it’s not their politics. But celebrities offer opinions at their own risk. LeBron offered a take. Now he will reap the reward. He’s a big boy, he can handle it. And he might learn something along the way.

What part of the media is “OPINION people?” How do you distinguish that when you get opinions on every network? With Twitter, everybody is providing opinions. Even the people who agree with him and report as such. It’s all opinions.
