Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

I suppose there are several people you could argue that are at a higher level than LeBron, but I don't get the Wilt argument. In spite of his incredible scoring, rebounding and blocking skill, he won 2 rings. The main beef against LeBron is the lack of rings, but otherwise his statistical totals are staggering as well. Chamberlain was amazing as well, but I don't see how you can easily place him ahead of LeBron.
Plus Wilt played in an era where everyone but the other center was way shorter than him. If anything, Kareem transended eras, so it's easier to make a case for him, but if Wilt played in the 80s or 90s, he likely would have been a really good center, but without the eye-popping numbers.

Yes I thought about making that argument as well, but the truth is that LeBron, in many ways, is a physical freak of nature just like Wilt was (and guys like Jim Brown). All those guys had physical attributes that are unlike almost any other human alive. Wilt fell into that category, and so does LeBron in my mind. There just aren't humans that are his size that can move so quickly, with such agility and with such an unbelievable amount of coordination.

LeBron put himself solidly in the top 5. He is easily the best athlete to play the sport, and even with his flaws he is still spectacular.

Before this season, there used to be a grand canyon between Michael and LeBron when it came to a killer instinct, mental toughness and ability to close out games. I think he still trails Michael but took a big step forward and this finals performance was legendary.

I think it's also harder to judge LeBron because he simply isn't a consistent scorer or ballhog in crunch time. Guys like Jordan or Kobe are stone cold killers and more consistent scorers. LeBron can be better than all of them (with his superior gifts and skills) or he can struggle with his shot selection, confidence and aggressiveness when crunch time arrives.

But for as good as Jordan became on defense, he cannot guard the entire lineup like LBJ or elevate his team so well.

My beef with LeBron is his lack of competitive killer instinct. I don't think he got that in this series until he felt disrespected by Green. Then he was hyper focused and pissed. Jordan found ways to feel disrespected and pissed on a nightly basis.

The numbers I think would still be eye-popping. What his numbers do is explode heads. (And I think for the most part people do factor that into his legacy.)

Lebron took a step with this series. He played the way Jordan would have for 3 games.....and now people are acting like that makes him = Jordan. Do it for 6 fucking years in a row. Then we'll talk.

The NBA didn't exist in 94 or 95.

Lebron and Wilt are extremely difficult to compare because they played in such vastly different eras against vastly different competition.

Having said that, the only legitimate center Wilt played against was Bill Russell and many times Russell got the better of him. With regard to championships, it is really unfair to compare Wilt against Russell because Chamberlain had to play against those great Boston Celtics teams who won multiple NBA championships.

I do not think there is a a player today who can stop Lebron when he really wants to win. He has that one burning desire that I do not think Wilt had. Lebron can do it all on the court play defense, rebound, score, pass, etc. Not to mention that he is a great teammate in a different sort of way.

LeBron James to http://cleveland.com: He'll return to Cavs to defend title in 2016-17

When you saw him crying on the court after game 7 you knew that there was absolutely no doubt what so ever that he would be back. The only question is: What will his "supporting cast" look like?

P.S. He came home and I think he'll stay here for some time too (i.e. as long as Cav ownership/management can field a "contending team"):
