LB Thomas Matthews (official thread)

What an exceptional young man. He might just be my favorite out of this entire class. Courage, leadership, and character. He is the epitome of what it's all about. I hope he gets his shot in the NFL. But if he doesn't, or when it's done, I hope he gets his Graduate Assistantship at tOSU and goes into coaching. Just think of the influence he could have on young people.

Congratulations Mr. Matthews. And thank you. How firm thy friendship . . .

Not that it's his only option, but I think he could get picked up in Free Agency by an NFL squad post-draft. Backups at Ohio State (especially those that get lost in the deepet linebacking unit in the country) are certainly better than a lot of starters at other schools. If nothing else, he would be a special teams animal.

Congrats on graduating Thomas...I'm sure you'll excel in whatever you decide to do.

Ohio State Student-Athletes Receive Degrees at Winter Commencement

Dan Taylor and Louise Bond-Williams among graduates

March 24, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Twenty-nine Ohio State student-athletes received their bachelor's degrees following winter quarter commencement Sunday in St. John Arena. Among the group was former track and field All-American Dan Taylor and women's fencer Louise Bond-Williams.

Taylor was a nine-time All-American for the Buckeyes in his four years competing on the men's indoor and outdoor track and field teams. He was a two-time national champion in the hammer throw and shot put events, becoming the only student-athlete to sweep both events at the same competition. Taylor also was a two-time Big Ten athlete of the year in 2003 and 2004 and was Ohio State's male athlete of the year in 2004.

Bond-Williams competed for England in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. She also was a member of the 2004 national championship team for the Buckeyes and was a first team All-American in 2002 and 2004, and was a second-team honoree in 2003.
