LB Teradja Mitchell (transfer to Florida)

TERADJA MITCHEL - ABOVE THE REALM

Ohio State linebacker Teradja Mitchell went a different route when beginning to profit off of his name, image and likeness. The senior started his own clothing brand called Above The Realm.

“I’ve wanted to start a clothing brand for a while now,” Mitchell told BuckeyesNow's Andrew Lind. “My major is Fashion and Retail Studies and being from a fashion hub like Virginia, where you have icons like Pharrell, Missy Elliott and Pusha T, it’s always inspired me to take that same path.

“The message behind it all is to strive to a level out of this world while also bringing an abstract street wear brand to the world for everyone to wear – even people who aren’t sports fans, which is why I didn’t involve sports."

TERADJA MITCHELL STEPPING UP AS “GREAT VOCAL LEADER” FOR OHIO STATE'S UNPROVEN LINEBACKER ROOM

124225_h.jpg

With the departures of captains Tuf Borland and Justin Hilliard as well as fellow seniors Pete Werner and Baron Browning from last season, Ohio State has a lot of experience and leadership to replace at linebacker.

The Buckeyes won’t be able to build true game experience at that position until they actually start the season on Sept. 2 at Minnesota. Leadership, however, is forged in the offseason, and one linebacker’s name has consistently come up when Ohio State coaches and other linebackers have been asked who’s emerged as a leader over the last eight months: Teradja Mitchell.

When asked about who were stepping up as team leaders last week, Ryan Day singled out Mitchell as one of several players who had done so this offseason, saying he is “very impressed with Teradja Mitchell’s approach.”

“He’s been a guy who’s been pretty vocal,” Day said. “He can kind of step up in front of the team and speak.”

Given that, Mitchell could have considered moving on from Ohio State and using his fifth and final year of collegiate eligibility elsewhere. Ultimately, though, Mitchell wanted to stay true to the commitment he made to Ohio State nearly five years ago, on June 2, 2017, when he became a member of the Buckeyes’ recruiting class of 2018.

“I'm big on loyalty,” Mitchell said Wednesday. “I committed to this school back in 2017, and I’ve been all in ever since. Just because it doesn't go my way, that doesn't mean for me personally, that don't mean to just shy away and run away. I'm gonna keep attacking this thing and God has a plan for me. I’m gonna keep working.

“I committed to this place back in 2017. Once I committed, I committed. I’m staying true to this program. I love this program, I love Coach Day and what he's done. I'm all in.”

Mitchell said last year was “difficult for sure,” in part because of what he described as “life-changing situations” that happened in his personal life. While he didn’t want to get into specifics about what happened, he said the turbulence in his life off the field affected his focus on the field.

“I just wasn't in the right place mentally,” Mitchell said. “I even had moments where I didn't even want to play football anymore. But I’m back on the right track.”

Love this and glad to have him back. Life can be hard sometimes and if Mitchell is in the right place mentally, the talent is there to be great. I hope he gets the return on investment tenfold this season and kills it for us.

I hope he finally shines this year. We got so many guys at the position with a ton of potential they just need to put it together.

I'm cheering for this kid too, I just wonder where he fits with so many LBs on the roster and Knowles only playing 2 at a time.
