Licking Valley 41, Heath 0
Storm Klein ran 12 times for 200 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown, and host Licking Valley (4-1, 2-0) beat Heath (3-2, 1-1) in the MSL Ohio.
Storm Klein rushed for three touchdowns and Nick Phillips threw two TD passes to Mike Kuhlwein as host Licking Valley (5-1, 3-0) beat Whitehall (0-6, 0-4) in the MSL Ohio.
Quieter storm
Licking Valley junior running back Storm Klein, who totaled nearly 3,000 yards rushing and 41 touchdowns in his first two seasons, is averaging only 83 yards, but it's not necessarily a bad thing for the Panthers (5-1).
Klein leads a multi-headed backfield in which seven players average more than 7 yards per carry. The 6-3, 220-pounder, who is weighing scholarship offers from elite programs across the country, plays linebacker full time.
"We feel like we have some depth among our running backs and receivers, and by spreading it around to different people, hopefully it will make us more difficult to defend," Panthers coach Randy Baughman said.
"Storm's not the selfish type, but I'm sure he wouldn't complain if we asked him to carry 30 times a game like he did the past two years. ? And we may yet do that down the road. But Storm's college future is probably on the defensive side of the ball, and he makes just as big of an impact there for us."
Storm Klein, who finished with 121 yards on 16 carries, scored the first of three touchdowns early in the second, capping a 61-yard drive that included runs of 16- and 30-yards with a 15-yard score four seconds into the second quarter.
Licking Valley's never-ending Storm
Conditioning shows as Klein excels, even with more playing time

HANOVER -- Grinding out 40-yard dash after 40-yard dash in the summer heat hardly was an ideal experience for Licking Valley's Storm Klein.
But the payoffs clearly have been recognizable in a much more involved year for the Valley (6-1, 4-0) junior.
Klein barely has stepped off the field this season, playing full time at linebacker on a dominating defense and averaging nearly 12 carries per game at running back.
He's near the top in tackle leaders and has rushed for 622 yards -- clear benefits of grueling summer workouts.
"I ran with a parachute and we marked off the road for 40s," Klein said. "My dad would sit there and make sure I was running them.
"I've worked harder in practice and I have to be prepared every second."
He received a verbal offer from Ohio State this summer, but said that's only helped him focus on the task at hand.
Klein's improved strength has led to him breaking more tackles this year, and Baughman has seen improvement in other areas as well.
"He's reading his blocks better and maybe running harder," Baughman said. "I don't think he's as physically beat up or dinged up as he would be if he was running 30 times a game.
"He's taking on tackles a little better, but he's getting used to playing both sides."

HANOVER -- A big play on the game's second play from scrimmage gave Lakewood an early lead, but Licking Valley rolled from there to a 50-13 victory Friday night at Baughman Stadium. The teams combined for five turnovers in a wild first quarter, but the Panther offense quickly got on track to score twice in the opening quarter and build a 30-6 halftime lead.
Valley's third-quarter scores came on a 19-yard Storm Klein run
