LB Storm Klein (Official Thread)

From what I have heard, Storm has had a great spring and looks like he could be a great one. So here is my question, with the depth we have at LB I have to assume he will not get much experience at LB this year (only pt will come in mop-up time and special teams), therefore, what is your thoughts on redshirting him? I would like to see him redshirted to save a year of eligibility. With all the DBs and LBs we have on this roster, I would have to believe special teams should have enough bodies without him. Your thoughts?

Hawk and Carpenter were used on special teams and played mop-up during their true freshman year, and it worked out fine that they didn't redshirt.

?Storm?s doing a good job,? OSU linebackers coach Luke Fickell said as the spring practice season was winding down. ?He?s going to have a chance. I think he?s going to help us this year at some point some place, whether it?s special teams or not.?

Klein was active throughout drills and really shone in the team scrimmages, including the Scarlet and Gray Game in Ohio Stadium on April 25. Playing before a spring game-record crowd of 95,722, Klein helped the Gray to a 23-3 win with four tackles including 1.5 for loss, numbers that matched projected starting middle linebacker Austin Spitler, who played for the Scarlet. Klein also broke up a pass and made several good reads and flowed to the football.

As was the case in the jersey scrimmage, he looked very comfortable going forward and attacking the play.

Duane Long posted some observations relayed to him by one of his contacts:

The Duane Long Report

<<<If Etienne Sabino does not learn to play within the system he will never play here. He is being hurt by the fact that he was allowed to just run around and make plays in high school because he was such a stud. He is not picking up the system. He has the brains. He just can't break bad habits. At least they are bad habits now that he is in college.

You told me about Storm Klein. He should not be this good this soon. Not with playing linebacker so little in high school. He is the worst thing that ever happened to Sabino who would continue to get a heavy does of reps. Klein will take his job.

Q: Can you describe your game?
A: I feel that I am an aggressive player, I move downhill and I go fast. I also play with power. To make tackles you've got to be aggressive and ready to hit.

Q: Is this experience what you expected so far, playing for USA Football?
A: Well when I was getting ready to come here for camp I was wondering if I was going to get along with the other linebackers, and the rest of the guys, but everyone here is really cool. The guys are all the same and we're all here for the same reason -- to win and play for our country.

Q: How's the competition out here on the practice field?
A: The competition is great -- you're out here with the best incoming freshmen in the nation. You really have to push yourself to stay on top of your game. Everything turns into a competition out here, with that you make a lot of great team bonds too, between both blue (defense) and white (offense) teams.
