Ohio State football: Ryan Shazier will enter NFL draft
Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
Shazier, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder from Plantation High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was the Buckeyes' and the Big Ten's leading tackler in the 2013 season, which concluded Friday with a 40-35 loss to Clemson in the Orange Bowl. He had 143 tackles, including 22.5 tackles for loss.
“It was a tough decision for me because my college experience at Ohio State has been amazing,” Shazier said. “I”ve had the opportunity to build great relationships with some great people. I love Ohio State, I love my coaches and I love my teammates.
“However, I just want to fulfill of playing in the NFL. I’ve been dreaming of playing in the NFL since pee-wee football, and I’ve been working and striving to do whatever I can to get there. And I feel like now is the time.”
Shazier was a two-time first-team all-Big Ten selection and was named first-team all-American by the Associated Press. He is projected to be taken in the late first round or early second round of the NFL draft.
The Rev. Vernon Shazier said his son thoroughly enjoyed his time at Ohio State.
"It was a win-win," Rev. Shazier said. "We gave them our best and they gave us their best."
