LB Ryan Shazier (All B1G, All-American, 2017 Pro Bowl)

I find this somewhat strange because unlike Roby he is not going to be announced on Senior Day so maybe there is hope that he will stay for another season.

Will Ryan Shazier join Roby as departing defensive stars? I would guess Shazier leaves. He is one of the fastest, most athletic -- and most productive -- linebackers in the country. He was named a semifinalist for three major college football awards. Meyer always tries to downplay his output a bit, perhaps to keep Shazier level-headed, or maybe to convince him he has room to grow and needs another year at Ohio State. Shazier skirted the question on Wednesday, but he seems as NFL-ready as any other Buckeye.

Roby is being announced on Senior Day simply because he's a senior. The fact he redshirted doesn't affect the fact that he's been a member of the team for four years and therefore deserves the recognition.

I like that Urban Meyer is allowing the recognition of Roby, but I'd not want to see it repeated for those who leave after three years.
I wouldn't mind, if after honoring the seniors, they gave a mention to players who will be playing their last game. I would think, if the player was going pro, he was a contributor to the program. I don't think that would hurt recruiting at all.

There's been a lot of talk about where Hyde ranks all time among tOSU running backs but not a lot of talk of where Shazier ranks among the linebackers. Right now he's playing at a level that only a few players have reached. If he comes back next year he'll end up on the Mount Rushmore and if he doesn't come back he'll still be a guy that's talked about for a long time

He has really stepped it up in the second half of the season. Several weeks back I thought he was too inconsistent to put him in the top tier of Ohio State linebackers during my lifetime. Today he matched Tom Cousineau's record for solo tackles in a game. Doing something like that automatically puts him in that top class. Right up there with Hawk, Laurinaitis, Katzenmoyer, etc.
