LB Ryan Shazier (All B1G, All-American, 2017 Pro Bowl)

I guess we differ in our definitions of exciting then. Laurinaitis was easily the most exciting Buckeye LB I had the pleasure to watch, even more than Hawk and Katz. Shazier in my humble opinion has a long way to go before he reaches that lofty level.

Love JL but Hawk and Shazier make more of the highlight plays. Though that stretch in '06 where JL had about 4 straight games with an int was pretty damn exciting.

Well put. JL might not have similar physical abilities of Shazier but
Animal's consistency throught his career has been superior. Ryan
Still has a ways to go before he's near as reliable in pass coverage.

Edit. Let us not forget these two play separate positions with a
Difference in responsibilities.

I just realized he has better stats than Te'o who is up for the Heisman....

Shazier: 99 Total tackles (59 solo/40 assisted), 4 sacks, 1 int, 1 TD, 7 PD

Te'o: 86 Total tackles (36 solo/50 assisted), 1.5 sacks, 5 int, 4 PD

Ryan is kicking Te'o's ass in the Solo tackle department.

If anyone needed evidence that stats aren't everything, this comparo would be sufficient.

I love Shazier, and in a couple years we might talk of him in the same light as Te'o. But not right now.

While I agree that Te'o is the better LBer right now, there's no way Te'o should be in consideration for an award that's largely statistically based. He's a good guy and a great player, worthy of a lot of praise. But he's not producing statistics worthy of Heisman consideration IMO.

I don't think Heisman "consideration" should be limited to those with mind-blowing stats (which we should recall Troy Smith did not have). But I would agree that Te'o should not win the Heisman this season.

Not that this has anything to do with Shazier this season, whom I haven't seen on any mock Heisman ballots. :wink2:

Teo is also on the field probably a LOT less. He has also made those big game changing plays when his team needs them. Not to mention ND is playing a high profile game almost every week it seems while chasing the opportunity to play in the NC game. Shazier has made a lot of mistakes as well with missed tackles (though that seems to have tapered off significantly as of late).

He also has way more tackles for loss, with 11.5 (47th nationally with 1.15 TFL per game)...Te'o isn't even in the top 100 in TFLs.
