It's almost seems strange now that he's only a Sophomore. Enrolling early for S&C definitely has its benefits and he got decent playing time as a true Freshman. I hope our 2013 frosh LBs can make a significant jump like JP did to help close the gap on depth worries at the position.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2013

  • Joshua Perry was the first commitment to the 2012 Ohio State recruiting class, and he made the announcement in the summer after his junior year in high school. He was second-team all-state in Division I in 2011, and was ranked the 11th-best outside linebacker prospect in the country by Rivals.com. Perry, who turned down Duke and Stanford among others, has been an OSU scholar-athlete since enrolling early in January 2012. He played primarily on special teams last year, and he became a starter this season.

Question: Why do you prefer to be called Joshua instead of Josh?

Answer: I put a lot of value in my name. That’s the only thing you have coming into the world, and the only thing you’ll have when you leave. So I prefer to be called by my full name, Joshua, as opposed to Josh or anything else.

Q: Is the short hair a new-look, new-attitude kind of thing? Why did you shed the dreds?

A: I started them my sophomore year of high school. I just thought it was time for a new look, do something new with my personality, I guess — new haircut, new guy. People are dynamic and the world is dynamic, so if you are a static person in a dynamic world, you’re not really doing anything.

There is something about Joshua that I have always liked. He seems like a pretty serious young man. From the interviews this year it seems like he is pretty hard on himself though, like he knows the LB depth is very thin and he needs to perform. Would love to see him have a great game this week with FAMU, maybe that will loosen him up a bit and he will just let the game flow. He has all the tools. Seems like he just needs the confidence to trust his instincts. Let's hope he has a break through moment soon. His emergence will be HUGE if we want to "play for championships" late in the year.
