Jerome Baker - LB - Cleveland (Ohio) BenedictineBaker, an Ohio State commit, told us at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl that he is solid to the Buckeyes, but that has not stopped Michigan, and specifically defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, who had his commitment at Florida, from going after him. He has not visited Ann Arbor however, and has not set anything up.

I fully disagreed with the writer of this article stating that Baker and Hilliard have maxed out their frames. It's silly to think, and also saying that he would lose speed by putting on weight. I can easily see Baler being similar to Lee and Shazier, and flying around the field even with 15-20 extra pounds. Baker is crazy athletic and will do great in the gym with Mariotti.

Yeah that is far from accurate. I see Baker putting on 25-35 before he leaves. He really needs another 15 before he is ready to hit the field at LB. And if you look at him, there is plenty of room left.

I would agree, that is just ignorant. The kids come in at 18 and sometimes 17 years old, and are kids. They leave four or five years later as 22 year old men. It is nearly impossible for a kid to go from 18 to 22 and work for 4 years in the weight room and not put on some lbs and it is almost always muscle mass. Pretty much every kid arrives their lightest and leaves at their optimum unless they are a 300+ lineman that gets in better shape and changes their body to be more efficient at 290 lb. Also, I would like to see how many players actually get slower, no matter what they gain weight wise. The over whelming majority of players arrive as a kid, gain muscle and speed, and graduate as men. It is just the natural cycle of maturing. Baker will pack on some muscle and will not lose a step.

Lydell Ross purportedly had a better 40 time at 230 or whatever he topped out at than he did when he came to OSU.

I think what made him look slow, indirectly, was his breathtakingly poor vision which led him to be slowed down, directly, by so many OL asses he ran straight into.
