LB Gabe Powers (transfer to Kansas St.)

  • currently 235 lbs
  • expects to hit 245 lbs by the start of his senior season—consuming 8,000 calories per day
  • teams avoided his side of field and he was frustrated by how that limited the action he saw in games
  • growing in confidence on and off the field
  • ~100 texts a day in the 2022 class chat (he’s one of the least active)
  • Washington/Day still view him as an outside LB but he is open to moving to DE
  • teams still recruit him, with Georgia Tech pushing the hardest
  • mentions Zach Rice as a player being targeted in the class
  • looks forward to competing at Ohio State, playing for a championship, and making it to the NFL
  • values staying in Marysville versus transferring to a national HS program—expects to compete for a state title

Thanks for the breakdown, all very interesting bullet points. Could see Gabe move to DE at this rate and is nice to have that versatility so we can bring in 1 more LB (looking at you Murphy).

Interesting list of Rivals' OLBs. Ohio State currently has 2 of the top 3, at one time Ohio State had 3 of their top 4, and (if Ohio State gets Shawn Murphy) could have the top 3:

1. CJ HICKS

Ohio State

VERBAL

2. SHAWN MURPHY

Undecided, Rival's "future cast" has Ohio State leading in the recruitment of Shawn Murphy: https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/shawn-murphy-234223

3. GABE POWERS

Ohio State

VERBAL

4. DASAN MCCULLOUGH

Indiana

VERBAL

Id like to see him stay at LB honestly. Urlacher or Vander Esch size LB

But that's IF he has stopped growing. He's going to be a senior in HS, and it's realistic that he could grow another inch(or 2) and still put on another 5-10lbs before hitting OSU campus. That would be a 6'5' 250lb true frosh LB... This is reminding me of the Gee Scott scenario, where he may outgrow the position. Btw, we have a true frosh this year who was a 5star DE who came on campus at 6'5' 248- Jack Sawyer.

And honestly he could make even more money in the pro's at DE. If he can get in the 260s, you have another possible 1st RD DE.
