LB Freddie Lenix (Cincinnati signee; transfer to Notre Dame College)

IAnytime we have a truly special kid who has verballed to us and we lost for any reason it dings our program.

You are right but it also could sway some parents who want a top education for their kid to consider Ohio State instead of another resurgent football program in the Midwest. Showing that you are serious about a good education sends a message to recruits and to current players.

Again, I really feel bad about Lenix but I think this is a good thing in the long run.

Freddie's patience finally ran out.

I am sad about this, poor Freddie really wanted to be a Buckeye.

OSU's patience ran out as well. Just qualify and you play. Not that hard a concept. Freddie either couldn't or wouldn't acheive the required scores to play for us. I feel bad he won't be here, but don't act like this is OSU's fault.

Good luck in Cincinnati. Both guys will be able to flourish under Coach Dantonio's leadership.

Maybe when recruiting players, are catered too, but the admissions departments are brutally honest..if you have these requirements you're in if you don't you're out. Freddie couldn't meet the requirements for whatever reason..so he's not in. This not being negative on Freddie many people don't meet these requirements and become successful with or without football. Freddie don't be discouraged this could be great for you continue to work hard and good things can happen.

Just to clarify; Freddie did qualify under NCAA guidelines, but OSU would not let him in. Freddie did what was asked of him, in the hopes of wearing the scarlet and gray, but for whatever reason that was just not good enough. I hope his treatment does not affect how Ginn Sr. feels about Ohio State.

Well seeing as how Tressel took a chance on one of his kids how could he. Also keep in mind that Ginn Sr. hadnt heard from Freddie in some time, and wasnt able to comment on what was going on with the situation just about a week b4 he decided to go to Cincy.

The answer to your confusion lies in your own post. He qualified under NCAA guidelines. OSU holds a higher standard than the NCAA. Take note of how many kids in the last three years qualified at Akron, MSU, and NC State, but were turned down here. Freddie was well aware of what he needed to do to qualify here. He didn't reach that target.

No hard feelings. Good luck in the Queen City, Freddie.

I just find it all crazy because at the buckeye hall of fame cafe one of the posters saw him and said 'So are your Glenville boys going to follow you to osu?" and he responded with "What do you think :)". Makes me wonder just when exactly he found out he wasn't going to get in. I'd assume he knew at that point, but maybe not, in which case it's good to see he didn't appear to be bitter at OSU based upon his response.

Best of luck, huge pick up for Cinci.

I'm sure Ginn Sr. will be able to separate his feelings towards the football program and the admissions office. My guess is that every effort was made by the football staff. No one likes to lose out on talented players, especially from a pipeline school. As I stated in Maupin's thread, I would bet that Tressel helped steer Freddie to UC when it became apparent he would not be admitted. If it did go down that way, and I have no inside info to support or deny, then the Glenville people are probably appreciative of the effort. Either way, a lot of people wanted to see Lenix be a Buck and it's not going to happen. Disappointing, but reality in today's climate.

No, Freddie did not. Everyone knows that OSU is now going to hold you to a standard higher than the NCAA's bare minimum, and he knew it, too. I really, really wish the kid could've made it, but he didn't, and it is in no way any fault of the OSU staff or admission's office. I wish him the best of luck at Cincinnati, and hope he makes it to the NFL someday.

One other note to take into account. Dantonio took the job in Cincy to do what Tressel was doing, change, mold and shape young mens lives. Dantonio is interested in the quality of life, not just the athletic side of things. Lenix will get some good leadership.
