LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

I had the same injury my sophomore year in a scrimmage (it was actually Spitler who broke it) and I didn't miss a beat. It is painful to play through, but Bino is tougher than sophomore RB07OSU, so I have no doubts he will be ready to go.

Well, I'm not on the coaching staff but I believe the concensus was that he ran himself out of plays too much. The mental side of the position hadn't kicked in and he was stuck in the depth chart behind some prety productive linebackers.

I think he doesn't play more because he doesn't appear to be as fluid in pass coverages. He look out of place a lot, at least from what I've noticed. Bino looks his best when he's not thinking (blitzing, reacting). Thus, he looks awesome because he makes awesome plays on the stuff he's good at. Kid could be one of the bet LBers in the country when he gets everything down. He is so physically gifted.

southcampus I agree. On TV he stands out because of the plays he is able to make. If You watch the game again and focus on Sabino I do not think people will walk away and say he is our best LB. I think that is Sweat hands down at this point.

People have said for a while once he "gets it" he will be great. After a RS last year I was hoping he would have it. Sometimes it is a matter of real game reps with real film to do it, but here is to hoping he at some point does get it and his off the chart physical abalities can be fully used.

Round trip
The appeal of Ohio State lured Etienne Sabino out of south Florida. Now the linebacker faces the challenge of returning as a visitor to the place he once called home

The football life of Etienne Sabino comes full circle tonight.

Four years after leaving Miami to pursue his gridiron dreams at Ohio State, he?s back in town with the Buckeyes to take on the University of Miami in Sun Life Stadium.

?It was definitely tough to leave Miami, to leave that state, really, because you have the big schools, Miami, Florida, Florida State,? Sabino said. ?But it was a personal decision for me.

?I kind of wanted to leave the state of Florida to see what else was out there. College is a four- or five-year experience, and I thought ?Why not see something else? Why not go across the country and experience something different?? ?

Thus the fourth-year junior linebacker who rose to recruiting prominence playing for Dr. M.L. Krop High School under the guidance of the father of an OSU football legend, has returned ? broken bone in left hand ? to play in front of the home folks. Among them will be his mother, Agatha Rijo, and his 12-year-old brother, and she has an idea of what Sabino will be feeling.

?He won?t want to disappoint anyone,? Rijo said. ?He has a lot of friends who are playing at UM, so he probably is going to see this as proving something to them. I know they stay in touch, and they?ll be out there teasing each other a lot, but all in good sportsmanship.

?But I think he is just going to want to win, because I think he has been teased a lot for going to Ohio State and not playing college football here. So I think that is something he probably wants to prove, that he made a good choice.?

Former Miami Krop players don?t regret choosing Buckeyes over Hurricanes
By Manny Navarro
[email protected]

Etienne Sabino grew up in South Florida a self-described huge Hurricanes fan. But when it came time to pick a college, the former Miami Krop High standout decided not to follow the rest of the local stars in Miami-Dade and Broward down to Coral Gables for a rebuilding project.

Instead, Sabino ? considered the No. 1 high school middle linebacker in the country by Rivals.com in 2008 ? and Krop teammate Travis Howard, a highly touted cornerback, bucked the trend and joined the Buckeyes at Ohio State.

?I can?t speak for Travis, but I know for me personally I wanted to get away,?? said Sabino, who will start at strong-side linebacker Saturday night for the 17th-ranked Buckeyes (2-0) when they take on the Hurricanes (0-1) at Sun Life Stadium.

?I grew up a Miami fan, but at the same time I didn?t like what I was seeing. They were losing, going through some coaching changes. I just wasn?t sure which direction they were really heading. Ohio State was playing for championships. And I just fell in love when I came up here. I don?t regret it for a second.??
