LB/DE Mark Johnson (official thread)

the question is...who else will be on campus visiting when johnson is there? i'd love to have a couple of heavy buckeye leans OR early commits there at the same time. aren't we getting visits from a couple of big names that weekend? i hope so...johnson needs some midwest influence. :)

The only problem here though is that that is the same weekend as the All-American game, so Wells, Smith, the Glenville Boys, etc., will all be in San Antonio. Homan and those guys could possibly be there for his visit though.
I wouldn't be surprised however if Johnson does turn out to be the only one that comes in that weekend. Then he can have a one-on-one with the staff basically.

I'd personally like to see both Homan and Schwartz down there to take officials with Johnson. That way, he could get in with one of our heavy hitters, plus see that he wouldn't be the only Cali fella we'd have coming in! Besides, neither Homan or Schwartz have taken their official yet, and neither are going to the AA game.

Interesting article from Duane Long. No mention of a visit set up with tOSU, only that Mark is trying to set one up. Also says that JT did not stop by and visit Mark while he was out in California and that they haven't heard from him. He is still reporting a 2.5 GPA and a 1350 on the SAT (new version).

I think the staff is just looking for a little improvement in the grades area b4 they put the full court press on. I think that he knows that or he would not be trying so hard to set up a visit. I think if the coaches give the ok, and set up the visit he will be ours.

One of the problems with Mark's recruitment is that it's real hard to get the straight scoop on anything regarding him from his "camp". Example being his telling Rivals that JT was by his house:wink2: . Here is what I know, he has issues to work out regarding transcripts. If he can get them worked out (and here is where the confusion comes in, CAN it be done?) then we will have him out for a visit in January. A player of his potential in L.A. would have an offer from SC also if he were qualified. IF in fact he is sporting a 2.5 with a 1350 SAT then the issue would be core classes and or class rank (need to be top 50%) etc. Make no mistake, this IS a player of interest for us. But until these issues are cleared we must concentrate on players that are more likely to be able to be Buckeyes. You needn't worry about this years class. It WILL be stellar.:wink2: Those that are complaining about academic standards are silly. With the reality being that 50% of ANY scholarship players not seeing the field, just figure what the odds are of a kid that you "take a chance" on academically are panning out. LOW. With the new NCAA standards in place you must spend your time going after players that are much more likely to succeed academically as well as on the field. SIMPLE.
