LB/DE Mark Johnson (official thread)

Mark Johnson looked quite a bit smaller than I expected him to at media day. He looks closer to 6'2" than 6'4"(maybe it was just the angle) and looks like he needs to hit that weight room harder and watch his diet.
Depends on Gibson's height... he seemed to be a tiny bit taller than Thad, who is listed at 6'3". He definitely looked taller than 6'2" in person, but could stand to get a little bigger.

Malcolm Jenkins picked out Mark as one of the youg guys playing well on the scout team during bowl practices.

Young Guys Shining: Bowl practices are a good thing for a football program. Teams that play in bowl games get almost two extra months of practice. Bowl practice is also a time when the young players who have been on the scout team get to run the OSU offense and defense and show how much they've improved. According to Malcolm Jenkins, a couple of young Bucks have done just that.

"I think these bowl practices help us out a lot because the young guys get more live situations," Jenkins said.

"So you get to see how they progress from camp until now because usually they are running the scout team. So now when they are actually running our defense and going live you get to see how far they have developed."
So who has stood out?

"I think Mark Johnson, Eugene Clifford and a couple of other young guys are doing really well," Jenkins said.

Can Mark crack the two deep next yr?

Without some position changes I wouldn't think that would be possible.

Rolle
Gibson
Moeller
Homan
Spitler

One of these guys will start in place of Grant. That still leaves four Lb's with a lot of playing experience. Homan looked like an impact LB before the injury and my guess is he becomes the new starting LB.
I would think the only way Johnson makes the two deep would be a Gibson move to DE and another LB moved to FB.

Curtis Terry will be back next year also (medical redshirt).

Quite a logjam of talent at the LB spot. Good thing for the team, I imagine it can be tough on some kids though.

Hopefully with a steady rotation of LB's, there's a good chance of getting a lot of these players on the field.

I would say that Terry will get a nod to start after all he's been through, but it will probably be an LB by committee. Terry and Homan will split it up on rushing/passing downs, Rolle and Gibson on passing downs (as blitzers). Spitler is more of a middle linebacker. Moeller for me is an unknown. What's your take?

Only if Homan can stay healthy will he be a factor. :(
Otherwise Terry, Johnson and maybe Gibson get the most reps. Impact guys also.
The other guys need to get bigger.

Not sure why you think this. Moeller was actually the two deep behind Grant at the SLB last year. I heard JT really praise this kid as he was so impressed with his motor.

If Homan does end up injury plagued then I think it's as simple as Moller moving from #2 to #1 at SLB.
