LB Coach James Laurinaitis (2x B1G DPOY, 2006 Nagurski, 2007 Butkus, 2008 Lott, 3x All-American, OSU HOF)

I tend to agree with you. He already is getting a lot of hype this year. If he plays like he has this year and last year, but a little better, he will definitely have a possibility at being a Heisman finalist. Already this year, he was mentioned in the Heisman. That is only if he comes back next year.

There are a lot of reasons why he would turn pro and a lot of reasons why he would stay in college. He is the third overall draft pick in the ESPN NFL Mock Draft, with that opportunity of knowing you can be picked that high in the draft, it would be hard to pass up. If Ohio State does end up winning the National Chamionship(*knocks on wood*), then that could be another reason he could want to go pro.

A reason he may stay are that he does not need money right away, his dad use to be a professional wrestler as many people know. His sister may end up going to tOSU to play hockey, so he could stay for her first year on campus. He may want to get his diploma and get his degree. Also, the obvious one, if we do lose something very important(*knocks on wood*), then he may stay just because of the great possibility of us winning next year. His dad also said he wants James to stay for his senior year and James did say he does listen to his dad, so there are a lot of possibilities both ways. We will find out soon enough. But, he will make the right decision for him and for the team. If he does go, we do have the talent that we need to fulfill the middle linebacker position.

I am sorry, but regardless of how humble a player he is, this has to be motivation. I am not trying to say he is a selfish player, but he may still feel undervalued. He was all hyped up last year and got one award compared zero this year. He can't help but want to prove himself even further than he already has on a central stage. Maybe I'm just bitter, ok I am bitter.

You can become a voting member of the Maxwell Football Club for $35 a year. Looking at the results of their awards over the past several years, it's obvious that that's just what many State Penn fans have done. Last year, Poz finished first and Connor second in the Bednarik voting. Laurinaitis wasn't in the top three.

This year, Connor gets the nod over Laurinaitis, despite their conference's own coaches and media disagreeing.

I am not saying this is not a motivation, because in a way it is, I just don't think it is going to be as big of a motivation for him as you are making it out to be. James is not the type of person to take the awards personally, in my opinion he is just happy to be a finalist for five awards and have the great experience of meeting other great players around the country at the awards ceremonies. James understands he cannot take little things like this seriously, but I can definitely see your point of how not winning the award will motivate him to work harder because he wants to get better for himself and for the team. But, he still has a shot at two more awards this year, the Butkus Award and Lott Trophy. He will definitely be a little upset if he doesn't win an award, whether he shows it or not. But, he is not the type of person to take awards personally. I do agree with you on the part that this will be some sort of motivation if he does not win any award, but he still has a shot at two awards.

If Laurinaitis played as much as Dan Connor and J Leman did he would probably be in the 150s and 160s in tackles.

In Leman's case, the guy plays on a defense that is geared for him to make every tackle. As for Connor, the guy is flat out good........ JL is still much better than either of those two though, not to take anything away from those guys.

I didn't have any idea that this was the case, but its pathetic that a major college football award can be bought. Amazing, and also kind of sickening. I got $50 that says if Sean Lee has more than 90 tackles next year that he wins.

Connor winning over Laurinaitis is a freaking joke.

Sure you are. You're are trying to say that Laurinaitis is better and deserves those awards more. Whats more is that myself and hundreds or thousands of others agree with you. :tongue2:

Congrats to him on winning the award, also congrats Connor and Dizon who were finalists. It is good to see Laurinaitis win the Butkus. I was more impressed with his statement: "But I'm taking this home for our whole defense. We're not just good because of one person." That statement says a lot about his character and how much of a team player he is. Now, it would be even better if he can win the Lott Trophy on Sunday.
