LB Coach James Laurinaitis (2x B1G DPOY, 2006 Nagurski, 2007 Butkus, 2008 Lott, 3x All-American, OSU HOF)

Am I the only concerned about Day’s antipathy toward considering former Ohio State players for important coaching roles? Freeman, Laurinaitis, and who else? Obviously he and Hartline are in lock step, or so it seems. But Linebacker is an obviously underperforming unit and so is its coach. In fact, it can be said the Linebacker room has been a disaster since Washington came aboard.

Someone forgot ole Billyboy Davis didn’t they.

Pray tell what open position on the staff are we wanting to bring in someone who has to my knowledge never been a coach? If you’re talking about bringing him in as a QC coach like Hartline did sure. However, no one on the staff has any connection with him that would rival Freeman’s, perhaps they talk frequently and expressed interest in coaching? We’ll never know but thinking that every former player is gonna be Hartline of position coaches is a fallacy

Not saying they are going to be Hartline. But it is obvious these Tressel guys know good leadership, defense, and want to coach. Washington May rebound big time under Knowles, but his corps looks no better and possibly worse than that of Billy Davis. And that is saying something.

You realize Laurinaitis won’t be the LB coach at ND, right? He’s taking an analyst position. And he only recently started thinking about getting into coaching. Just in the last few years according to him.

He doesn’t know Ryan Day. He said working for Fickell or Freeman would be the only two jobs where he’d feel comfortable getting into the college game. Just because he played at OSU doesn’t mean OSU is necessarily a good fit for him to launch his coaching career.

Also, just because a guy can play doesn’t mean he can coach. Look at Spielman’s stint with the Columbus Destroyers. That was a disaster.

“Freeman, meanwhile, his coaching star ascendant, had been approached by his alma mater, Ohio State, with an even more lucrative verbal offer as Ryan Day’s defensive coordinator.
You must have a different definition, as I don't see that as "antipathy" unless you expected Day to step aside for Freeman to be the head coach.

laurinaitis is going to say the right things as he knows firsthand that Freeman shit all over himself with his misplaced comments and unconvincing clarification. I know for a fact Laurinaitis was interested in exploring a coaching career dating back a couple years at least. What was said between Day and Laurinaitis is unknown except to them. But more importantly, I think Day would be well served to tap into the rich coaching tree of Jim Tressel because he trained and made great leaders.

meyer was a fantastic coach and hire at the time. But one thing he did not appreciate or at least exhibit appreciation for is the OSU legacies

"Ohio State Men"?

Let's not go down that path, shall we?
