LB Chris Worley (Official Thread)

I had not had a chance to watch his film until now but WOW. Kid straight up blows people up and I love seeing him destroy the bubble screen. Incredible athlete. Great length and an excellent frame as well. Methinks the ceiling is extremely high on this one...great Star prospect but I wouldn't be shocked to see him play safety with his length coming over the top to swat passes.

Chris Worley gives OSU plenty of defensive options. - (Allison Carey, The Plain Dealer)

Christopher Worley Jr.

High School: Glenville.

Position: DB.

Height, Weight: 6-2, 205.

Stars: 3.0.

College: Ohio State.

Comment: Versatile defender looks to get both time at cornerback and safety. Will likely start off as situational player.

Key stats: 89 tackles, 78 solos, nine sacks, eight quarterback hurries, five interceptions, five forced fumbles.

Other schools considered: Florida State, Rutgers, West Virginia, Arkansas, Michigan State, North Carolina State.

Major: Undecided.

Why I chose to play for this college: Dream school. Close to home. A chance to play and contribute early.

What I'll remember most about the recruiting process: Every college wants the same amount of time...but not enough time for every college.

Biggest surprise of recruiting process: Florida State had offered me so late.

Recruiting advice for current juniors: Take full advantage of the recruiting process.

I know that the fact Florida State came calling but I thought this story was worth the read. Ginn, Sr. protecting his house and Urban believes it is open season anytime:)
Chris Worley was walking down a hall at Cleveland Glenville High School a couple of weeks ago when Florida State assistant coach Sal Sunseri approached him unexpectedly.

“He looked at me, my body stature, and said, ‘You’re a freak of nature,’ ” Worley recalled. “My coach, (Ted) Ginn, told him, ‘No, he’s committed to Ohio State.’  ”

Undeterred, Worley said, Sunseri did his homework, “then came back to the school like two days later and said, ‘We have a full scholarship for you.’ He put me on the phone with (Florida State coach) Jimbo Fisher, trying to get me to take the (official) visit.”

Worley, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back who could grow into a linebacker by the time his college career is over, signed with Ohio State on Wednesday. He was in town yesterday to help promote the Ohio North-South all-star doubleheader in Dayton on April 27.He did not take the trip to Florida State, but that last-ditch effort was an example of the intensity of recruiting these days. It was much like the way Ohio State stayed on several eventual members of its 2013 class, even if they had committed to other schools.

“You’re going to hear stories about it’s a feeding frenzy out there. It is,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. “And sometimes you’ll hear people say, ‘You offer committed players.’ Let me make this real clear: Everybody does that. And it’s not wrong, OK?

“The young person has the right to go to any school he likes. If one school is better than the other, fits his personality. If something is going on illegally, that’s a whole different animal. But … the 17- or 18-year-old man has a right to go to any school he wants.”

Worley knows the coaches have him ticketed preliminarily as a challenger for the ?star? position, the fifth defensive back in the nickel defense who can swing up and play the run or drop into coverage. He also knows the coaches believe he can grow into being an outside linebacker in the next few years.

?I am willing to play wherever they think they need me,? Worley said. ?I just want to get on the field.?

North-South All-Star football game last night...

Cleveland strong: Trailing, 21-14, at halftime, the North rallied behind a defense fueled mostly by Cleveland octane.

Glenville defensive back Chris Worley (Ohio State) was named the North Defensive Player of the Game after registering a team-high five tackles, including a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

"We were limited in what we could do scheme-wise so that kind of hurt us," Worley said. "But I'm very proud of the defensive staff and players. We came back in the second half and played strong."

Coaches fight over players like Chris Worley. The incoming Ohio State freshman from Glenville could be claimed by safeties coach Everett Withers. He could be snagged by linebackers coach Luke Fickell.

Listed at 185 pounds as a recruit, Worley apparently has already added about 17 pounds since reporting. The idea is to be big enough to play like a linebacker without losing his ability to run like a safety. There's one part of the game where designations don't matter.

Everyone can be a piranha.
