For Williams, the subsequent changes in Penn State?s coaching staff ultimately caused him to change his mind.
?It was all about the coaching staff, and losing coach Bill Kenney, who recruited me since I was a sophomore, definitely hurt my relationship with the Penn State coaching staff,?? said Williams, who recorded 119 tackles at middle linebacker for the Knights last fall.
Williams said the reputation of the coaching staff at Ohio State - which includes head coach Urban Meyer, defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, defensive line coach Mike Vrabel, and defensive back coach Everett Withers - was the main factor in his decision.
?The superstar coaching staff they have going is really exciting, and they?re really excited to coach a great team, get some great players in, and hopefully go for a national championship,?? Williams said.
?It was a crazy process,? said Williams, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker. ?After I committed I thought I was all done and thought I was all set and I could just focus on my senior year. After everything went down, with coach Paterno getting fired, and all the craziness that took place at Penn State, it really opened my eyes and gave me the opportunity to look at Ohio State. In the end that was the best fit for me.?
Ohio State Football: Getting to Know Recruits Camren Williams and Armani Reeves
By Michael Chung
(Correspondent) on February 14, 2012
Armani Reeves and Camren Williams will play at OSU. Brent Williams is one proud papa.
I recently had the chance to have a conversation with Mr. Brent Williams, who has a lot of football in his family. His oldest son, Brennan, plays at North Carolina, and his younger son and godson, Camren Williams and Armani Reeves, are part of the 2012 recruiting class for Ohio State. Mr. Williams had some very enlightening thoughts on Ohio State football from the perspective of a former football player while also having three boys go through the recruiting process.
Q: You went on official visits to Ohio State; what stood out to you and the boys?
BW: Camren and Armani had an advantage; my older son, Brennan, visited schools prior to committing to North Carolina. The boys went on a lot of these visits, so they already knew about schools and what they were looking for.
In Camren?s case, he already had in his mind what he wanted in a school academically and socially, as well as football. Camren had attended football camps at OSU, so he already had a good idea of what OSU was like. His top two schools during the recruiting process were Penn State and Ohio State.
One thing that stood out during Camren?s visit was the presentation by Dr. Devor, part of the Exercise Science program at Ohio State. He carefully explained OSU?s program, how it differed from other programs. This gave both Camren and I a lot of comfort.
Coach Meyer also told me that Camren?s position, linebacker, was a huge need for the Buckeyes, as well as explaining how academics fit into football. Camren also loves campuses that have downtowns filled with streets and stores. High Street was a big plus.

Seems like a great kid. Can't wait to see Camren on the field.Inside Ohio State Football With Camren Williams
Michael Chung (9:20 pm)
Camren Williams is a linebacker prospect from West Roxbury, Massachusetts. After the Penn State scandal broke, Camren was recruited by a number of schools but chose Ohio State. He was a much-needed recruit to add depth at the linebacker position. He took some time to give Buckeye nation a glimpse into himself and Ohio State football.
Your dad played for New England; did this allow you to get to know Bill Belichick and Tom Brady?
CW: I watched them and went to training camp but there was no real inside connection with the Pats outside of working with a personal trainer who also worked with 17 players on the Patriots.
Did Penn State try to recruit you after the coaching situation stabilized?
CW: Yes they did. Coach O?Brien did not because he was busy with the Super Bowl but other coaches came at Armani and me. I know the defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator talked to us a lot and recruited us hard. Originally, after the Sandusky scandal broke, I was thinking about staying committed to PSU but once I visited OSU, I fell in love with the place. I felt it was a better fit for me academically as well as football. I had good talks with coach Vrabel, Fickell, and Meyer and felt OSU was where I wanted to go.
