Bobby Carpenter pleased

Bobby Carpenter could not shake a poor performance in last year's preseason finale vs. Minnesota for a long time in Wade Phillips' mind.
"That won't be the case this year," Carpenter said. "I made sure of that."
Carpenter played the entire game Thursday and finished as the team leader with five tackles and a pass deflection.
"We didn't have any backups and I went in with the mindset that I was going to play the whole time and I thought I got better and I think it helped me tonight playing the whole game."

OLB Greg Ellis, ILB Bradie James, ILB Zach Thomas, OLB DeMarcus Ware, ILB Kevin Burnett, ILB Bobby Carpenter, OLB Anthony Spencer, ILB Justin Rogers
In Ware and Ellis, the Cowboys have one of the best pass-rushing duos in the league. Thomas brings a feel and ability they did not have next to James last season. James' workload should go down this year, but he might have been better in coverage during camp than in 2007. The team hopes Burnett can play his role in the specialty packages in the season opener against the Browns after knee surgery knocked him out of three preseason games. A knee injury is expected to keep Spencer out of at least the first game, which puts pressure and playing time on Ellis. Carpenter had his best training camp. He and Rogers are core special teams players.
Buckeye Reunion
Linebackers Bobby Carpenter and A.J. Hawk were Ohio State teammates and fellow first-round selections in 2006, with Hawk going fifth overall to Green Bay and Carpenter 18th to the Cowboys.
They faced off last November at Texas Stadium, and now Hawk, the Packers' leading tackler through two games, gets home-field advantage Sunday at Lambeau Field. "I go visit A.J. and his wife, my wife and I, every year," said Carpenter, a key special teams player and backup linebacker. "We drove by the stadium two years ago and got to see it and now it'll be a good chance to go play in it."

Linebacker Bobby Carpenter was on the ESPN show First Take this morning. No, he didn't cut the pony tail.
Carpenter was asked what did his teammates think about Terrell Owens' comments regarding needing the ball more following the Cowboys' loss to the Redskins.
"Everybody is upset and frustrated about it," Carpenter said. "I think he said it and guys view it and say, 'maybe that was a little bit out of line.' But at the same time everybody [knows] he's out there practicing everyday. Not many guys, 13 years in this league are putting the effort on the field every day in practice and that's something everyone in that locker room respects."

Carpenter gets ready: With Kevin Burnett (calf) missing his second consecutive day of practice, inside linebacker Bobby Carpenter received some snaps in the nickel and dime defensive packages.
Coach Wade Phillips said Burnett is getting better and will be a game-time decision.
