This rookie crop continues to grow

IRVING -- The Cowboys rookie draft class had a noticeable presence in Sunday's 27-10 victory against Washington.
It was an improvement after a mostly no-show opener.
First-round pick Bobby Carpenter got on the field for the first time, playing special teams and in some nickel situations. Tight end Anthony Fasano, a second-round pick, made his first three catches for 39 yards, including an impressive one-handed grab.
Defensive end Jason Hatcher, a third-round selection, added half a sack. And fifth-round free safety Pat Watkins had six tackles in his second start and helped keep Redskins Pro Bowl receiver Santana Moss quiet.
Here's a look at how the 2006 draft class has fared:
ILB Bobby Carpenter
First round
What he's done: Carpenter was inactive for the season opener at Jacksonville. He made his debut against Washington and played special teams and a few plays in the nickel package. He finished without a tackle.
What's next: Carpenter is learning to play inside after being moved when Greg Ellis made a smooth transition from defensive end to outside linebacker. Carpenter plays behind Akin Ayodele and hasn't stood out since being drafted.

I didnt see him. does he still have long hair? oh and just wondering, does his brother play for Cincinnati?

He's right over Gholston's left shoulder in the picture I posted. It appears his hair is intact.

His brother Jon plays for Cincinnati. I recall seeing him in on special teams against Ohio State.

COWBOYS NOTES

Cowboys could see a measure of Young

By MAC ENGEL

STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

IRVING -- Cowboys rookie linebacker Bobby Carpenter has done his best to warn his teammates about what they could see Sunday in Nashville.
And what the Cowboys see on TV doesn't do justice to just "how big Vince Young is," Carpenter said of the Titans rookie quarterback.
"I remember when we played them, seeing him for the first time thinking, 'That's gotta be a tight end,'" said the former Ohio State star, who played against Young and Texas in 2005.

The following is part of Jean-Jacques Taylor's (he is a Dallas Morning News writer and an OSU grad) comments on Bobby Carpenter. I am a Cowboys fan and was very happy that the Cowboys drafted him. I think he will be fine, but he appears to be struggling a little right now.

"Bobby Carpenter has played in one game this season. There is no indication his role is going to change anytime soon.
For now, he is a wasted draft choice.
The Cowboys are preaching patience. They want to wait until midseason to see if the light bulb goes off and he becomes a more productive player.
Now, you can blame some of his slow development on shifting from outside linebacker to inside linebacker because of the Greg Ellis experiment. And you can say Akin Ayodele is playing so well that it's hard for Carpenter to push him for playing time.
The reality is that the coaching staff would love to put its No. 1 draft choice on the field, but he hasn't forced them to do it yet.
His performance in practice has not demanded playing time. He played in the nickel defense in Week 2 against Washington but was not much of a factor.
The most disappointing aspect of his development has been on special teams. The Cowboys thought he would be good, but he has been a liability.
There is time for Carpenter to improve and contribute this season, but it needs to happen quickly. Otherwise, he will spend the rest of the season as a wasted draft choice."
