LB Bobby Carpenter (All B1G, National Champion)

If he can't run until less than a week before the game, there's no way he'll be in "game shape". I know how bad he wants to play, but it's best for him, and the team, if he sits this one out and focus entirely on helping Little Animal to get ready...

Well Tress said thathe would be more likely to put him in than others b/c he thinks he will be able to handle not practicing that time.

I think we will find out when we get out to Tempe if he is going to be able to play tho. He said he is going to try and run on it out there.

He won't be in game shape, but if he gets cleared to play he has to get on the field some. Just give him 10 to 20 plays so he can play a little more. If he can handle it I would like to see him come in for the nickel package as a rush end and let JL get the reps at Sam. I'm sure Carp is working his ass off now doing everything he can to say in shape so that he will be ready to go for the Fiesta Bowl if he gets cleared.

Bobby Carpenter not "in game shape" is better than most linebackers in college football right now.

Look, no one wants to see Bobby at 100% and out there blasting Crying Irish than I do. But, you have to put aside to bravado and understand the realities here. The defense did great with JL in there during The Game. I like exhawg's approach...give Bobby some nickel time if he can hack it, and let JL play SLB full time.

agreed.

osu is likely to be in the nickle more often than now with ND's passing attack. with that being the case, carpenter is often a rush end in those sets. so you would have kudla and patterson in there instead. Carp may be able to handle some pass rush duties here and there, but dont push it.

IMO he will play... and be virtually 100%... he'll be walking on it this week if I am correct... somewhat sure I understand that bone...

Don't they have sonar or ultraviolet stuff that helps breaks nowadays...

regardless, I'd bet the rest of my vCash he's there bowl day..

Per the ozone....

Carpenter, who was injured in the Michigan game, is recovering from a broken ankle, but says there is some hope that he will play in the Fiesta Bowl.

"There's a chance that I can play, and believe me, I'm going to work that chance all I can.

I've never really been one to talk about the odds. It's just a feel thing with me. Hopefully my ankle will heal up and feel right. I've always thought of myself as a fast healer. We'll have to see if that's true.

"I'd play out there on one leg if they'd let me. I'm doing everything I can right now to get better. Down there we'll make the decision as to whether I can play or not. I won't be able to run at all until maybe the 28th, 29th, 30th. It will be kind of like a test for me to show the doctors that I can play.

Until that happens I'm going to be helping A. J. and Anthony get ready for this game, help the break down film and get James ready to play in the event that I can't."

yea my thinking as well plus im sure he is getting the utmost best treatment and therapy from the ohio state faculty. i remember watching the va tech game a couple weeks back and they built a special polymer flexible cast that was the first of its kind for one of their players.

His speedy recovery for his career is the most important thing. But if there is no risk of aggravating the injury, and the only issue would be his conditioning, it would be great to get him on the field for 10-15 sure passing situations, just to rush the QB.

i doubt conditioning will be too bad. im sur ethe staff has him working on other formas of cardio and he is lifting on every way possible.

I would love to see Bobby play, but man I would be crushed if he hurt it further where it might cost him some serious $$$$. I know pride and everything else comes into play, but he has paid his dues and I hope he doesn't do anything to cost him money because he well deserves it.
