LB Arvell Reese (National Champion)

I will counter by saying that Arvell is so much better instinctively than Browning ever was at OSU. He had trouble reading and reacting and making tackles pretty much up until his senior year. He definitely has improved in the NFL though.

Yep, Browning would have been best served by playing on the edge almost exclusively. Arvell can do it all. His instincts are unreal, as natural of a linebacker as I've ever seen

Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles and Caden Curry are being recognized as three of the best defensive players in the country.
All three Ohio State defenders were named Tuesday as semifinalists for the Lombardi Award, which honors college football’s best lineman or linebacker. Ohio State is the only school with three players among the 13 semifinalists for the award.
Reese and Styles were also named Tuesday as two of the 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, which honors college football’s best linebacker.
Reese has been one of Ohio State’s top breakout stars this season, leading the Buckeyes with 54 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Styles has also been a standout alongside Reese, recording 45 tackles – with zero missed tackles, per Pro Football Focus – with 2.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, an interception and a pass breakup.
Curry has been one of college football’s most productive defensive ends, recording 37 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks in Ohio State’s first eight games of the season.
The winners of the Lombardi and Butkus Awards will be announced in December.

Brugler said when he releases his next top 50 Reese is going to be #1
I have been watching tape on Reese and he is the most dominant defender since Chase Young for sure. Somehow he has the strength to easily move offensive lineman, and the speed of an elite linebacker. The way he uses his unique strength and leverage is a thing of beauty. IMO he should be rushing the passer a bit more, but he is capable of pass coverage, or spying a mobile qb. Just an insane package.

That’s the beauty with Arvell…his technique is off the charts combined with his versatility.

I think my favorite play this year, was his fake pass rush against Washington where he came down hard like he was on the blitz, only to hit the brakes, sit down for a split second, and then become a spy that eventually chased Demond Williams down.

What a nightmare.

Kid is a freak.

Also, the game intelligence and processing speed to maximize the athletic talent. He’s a poster child for the Developed Here motto. Bringing him along relatively slowly and then getting him real minutes last year is making him a top ten, at least, pick in his first year as a starter. He clearly bought in and was willing to put in the work. Just outstanding, but it sucks that we’ll only have him for one year as a starter.
