Actually, unless Johnson forced a fumble in the Michigan game, he only had 8 forced fumbles last year. Regardless, the fact that 6 of them were against such football powerhouses as North Texas (3), Arkansas (1), Rice (1), and Baylor (1) just doesn't really impress me all that much.

We'll I posted my links so if im wrong they are wrong. Second, Hawk managed just one against the monsters of the midway known as cincinnati, marshall, indiana, northwestern, and Penn State. Also, while north texas is not a good team, they do have very good runningbacks, i.e. patrick cobb and jamario thomas(the nations leading rusher last year).

So true, you have got to love guys with great football names. Texas has a kid comming in at qb next year named Colt McCoy. I have to assume that his parents new that he was going to play quarterback for the texas longhorns one day.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that Johnson's overrated. Check out Len Pasquarelli's latest article on espn.com where he says, "The critics feel he avoids too many plays. His supporters contend that you can't have more than 450 career tackles by not taking people on. But watch him on tape and you can see the detractors make a good point. He runs around way too many plays and, even with all those tackles, he whiffs far too much. Doesn't stack the way he should and will not stand up the lead-blocker. More of a drag-down tackler. Not an explosive blitzer."

Derrick Johnson played both ILB and OLB during his career at Texas.

I saw Texas play 5 games on TV last year. Derrick Johnson deserved the Butkus award in 2004, and I don't think we should be trying to knock him down a notch in this thread. What made him the clear-cut winner was the forced fumbles, some of them were very special plays.

What happens in Johnson's NFL career remains to be seen, but it won't have any effect on what AJ does this year.

agreed 100% Johnson may not be the greatest thing since LT like Texas fans want him to be, but a couple of things are true:

1) DJ deserved the awards he won this year.
2) AJ will enter the season favored to win the just about every award he is eligible for and rightfully so.

Also I know that the butkis award is a yearly thing but in DJ's four year career he did have 450+ tackles and 9 Int's to go along with all the forced fumbles... not bad

How impressive is AJ? Obviously a player of amazing intensity, he ends up making a play no matter where the ball is located on the field. Offenses fear him and coaches know that he's the one to watch.

He indicates that he has no intention of skipping his Senior year to go into the NFL. But then he hangs out with the hopefuls and runs the 40 at a blazing speed.

The scouts sit up and take notice, yet AJ walks away from a fairly certain draft within the top three rounds.

Some folks think he's making a mistake. He could blow a knee out or suffer any other number of injuries--some of which could be career ending.

Our AJ doesn't measure his football future in dollars; he measures it in pride.

Time to replace "Nuuuuuuuge" with "Haaaaaaaaawk."
