LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

I might be biased, but I watched several of the Texas games last year, in addition to all of ours, and I think that Hawk's every bit as good an LB as Johnson. Johnson seems like a great athlete, but he also seems a bit overrated in my mind--I think he won all those awards as much based on the fact that everyone thought he was going to be great coming into the season than his actual performance on the field, at least for the Texas games I watched. A.J., on the other hand, is just a monster. What amazes me most is his athleticism--he constantly runs down opposing RB's and his interceptions last year often involved his making diving catches that most TE's would not make. I didn't see Johnson doing any of that this past year.

AJ's interception to end the Michigan State game should have made a highlight spot, but it got buried behind Ginn's three TDs. Hard to argue when someone goes more than 160 yards and racks up 18 points, but AJ's interception was a thing of beauty.

Was AJ the one who made what should have been an interception vs. NC State near the end of that game? I may be thinking of Carpenter, but that should-be INT was ALMOST as nice as the one you're talking about.

well you might be a bit biased but so am i . If you look at the stats( for this year) hawk had about 11 more tackles but dj had more solo. DJ had one more sack, Hawk had one more interception. I think that we can agree that so far, by the numbers anyway, they are about as even as you get. Here is the kicker and why so many people thougt that DJ was such a great defensive playmaker. DJ had 9 forced fumbles this year. Hawk had 1. DJ had 19 tackles for a loss of 52 yards, Hawk had 10 for a loss of 8 yards. You said yourself that it was AJ's athletisim that amazed you, well, athletisism is why DJ was considered the best in the business this year. So much so that the one knock that nfl scouts have on him is that they dont know how he is gonna take on blocks in the nfl(he was fast enough to outrun them in college)

All that being said AJ is/will be the best linebacker in college this year and has a huge future in the nfl awaiting him.

if I have any stats wrong don't blame me, blame the links.

Yes it was AJ. Camera angles showed that he did make the INT, but since it was at NCST, there was no replay available. Go Big 10.

And as for calling DJ overrated..... wow. The guy was a turnover-forcing machine and I'll assume that if you ask any coach of any team that played Texas, they game-planned around him. I would have certainly loved to have him on our team.

You will be glad to know that the big 12 is putting in replay this year so it will be available when ya'll head this way in '06

I love AJ Hawk like any true buckeye fan does, but in all honesty, DJ. was. a. monster.

DJ had better FF skills than Hawk, and the way he can get into the backfield is just a split second quicker than Hawk can. Other than that, they're both beasts.

But Hawk next year for SURE will be the #1 LB in the country.

Good to see that the Big12 is doing it. Isn't there another big conference that's trying it this year as well? I want to say the ACC, maybe?
I know the SEC was looking at Instant Replay the Big 10 way courtesy of a visiting expert during the Vols contest with ND last year...

Bank on the Big 10 leading the way on this one, soon (2 years?) all the BCS conferences will have it.
