LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

AJ deserves better than this. I guess now he just has to go out and prove he's a more deserving candidate by planting that other media darling (Mr. Quinn) into the turf 4 or 5 times in the Fiesta. Congrats to Posluszny, but a big fat boo to whoever makes up the block of Butkus voters.

:oh: :io: BRING ON THE IRISH!!!

The nations best linebacker/defensive player didnt force a single turnover or recover one all year...

Must of been a down year for college football right???

Not that it matters but...

Penn State's Posluszny wins Butkus Award

<!-- end pagetitle --><!-- begin bylinebox --> Associated Press<!-- begin presby2 --><!-- end presby2 -->

<!-- begin text11 div --><!-- begin leftcol --><!-- template inline --> ORLANDO, Fla. -- Penn State's Paul Posluszny, who helped the No. 3 Nittany Lions earn a share of the Big Ten championship, won the Butkus Award as the nation's best linebacker on Saturday night.

The award, given by the Orlando Downtown Athletic Club, is Posluszny's second national honor. He won the Bednarik Award as the nation's best defensive player on Thursday.
"They're both huge honors, but I'd have to say, as a linebacker, that this one means a lot more to me," Posluszny said. "Playing linebacker, to win the Butkus Award means you're the top person at your position and that's the biggest thing you can do."

Posluszny beat out Ohio State's A.J. Hawk and Alabama's DeMeco Ryans in becoming the second Penn State linebacker to win the Butkus Award in its 21-year history. LaVar Arrington won in 1999.

This season, Posluszny has 111 tackles, including 11 for loss, and three sacks.
No, no your not the best LB.

Well he sure as heck benefitted from his buddy Dan Connor getting suspended for being an idiot. Posluszny's a baller, but he didn't have to split tackles with Schlegel and Carpenter.

I feel the same way. Although earlier in this thread it was said that comparing Hawk and Posluszny is like comparing nuclear weapons, in that they're both going to blow the hell out of you, I for one feel angry at this decision.

I think anyone who doesn't drink the "Penn State is the story of the season" kool aid can see Hawk is the better LB. I will grant that Posluszny is a good LB and he has had a hell of a campaign, but I don't think he deserves the award. I could write more, but at this point, it's rhetoric.

this is a hard one to swallow. I have nothing against Posluszny, but A.J. Hawk is the best linebacker in college football. Knowing A.J., I can't wait for January 2nd to see his response.

I agree 100% but there is no sense in a meltdown over something that is already over. The usual responses (email, phone, etc) are already in motion on other forums...I hate this decision, but I also know there is nothing that will come from a blowout around here.

Congrats to Paul...if you become half of the legend AJ Hawk will be revered as, you have truly done something. However, I doubt that will happen.

Awards are wonderful affirmations of talent...however, they are not always the truth.

I thought it was Bush, Young, Leinart, Quinn, then Robinson who finished fifth.

I miscounted...Hawk was 6th.

Congrats go out to Posluszny, but I think A.J. was more deserving because he was a stand-out on a LB corps of stand-outs, and that speaks volumes. Hawk is a top five draft pick and in the long run that means more. I would just haaaate to be someone on the Irish offense cause now you gotta deal with an A.J. Hawk thats out for redemption.
