LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

AJs' stats are better than any of those three. It feels like an OSU bias due to the recent and previous bad pub. Thank that cocksucker Clarett for this one.
Johnson, a Butkus finalist in 2003, leads the Longhorns with 107 tackles, including 14 for losses, while setting a school record with eight caused fumbles. On Wednesday, Johnson was named as one of four finalists for the Lombardi Award, given to the nation's top defensive lineman or linebacker.

Hawk only has 7 TFL, Johnson has double that. Hawk only leads Johnson by 4 total tackles. I can't seem to find how many forced fumbles/turnovers Hawk has caused, but I can tell you that it is not 8. If you've seen Johnson play, you know that these forced fumbles are not accidents. He has an eye for the ball and punches it out.

I think Hawk should without a doubt be in the top three, but there's no way he would have beat Johnson unless he played flat out amazing (yes, even moreso than he does) in the last two games. He won't get it this year, but he will be a favorite for next year still.

Team rankings have an impact on these things (the votes will prob. not admit it, but imo it does)...

If the Bucks were ranked (heckwe're not even in the top 25 at this point... if we beat Purdue, I hope we pop back into the national rankings) I think AJ might have made the finalist...

A guy with 47 tackles makes it but a guy with 111 doesn't??????? Total bush league if you ask me (I do see things through scarlet glasses though :wink2: )...

Maybe if Hawk had had that beautiful interception in week four or five he would have more positive publicity. That catch will be part of his highlight reel, you can be sure.

We gave up too many rushing yards during that losing streak, too, I think. It's not all his fault, the D linemen have to get penetration first, but still, it doesn't look good. The glory video highlights come when the linemen are mauling their way in and the linebacker, any linebacker, looks like a stud when he meets the ball carrier in the backfield.

Hey, we know he's good. Whoever drafts him will be happy with him.

GO BUCKS

Well, I think all Buckeye fans have come to the conclusion that Johnson is going to win this award hands down. But I have to say how surprised I am that AJ didn't make it as a finalist. Didn't Brooks miss some games earlier this year or am I thinking of someone else? What a shame, AJ deserved to be a finalist and got screwed IMO.

I don't think this is a big deal, there could be so many finalists for this award that it's impossible to please everyone. When there is doubt on who should be on the list and who should be left off, they look at W's and L's.

I'm a huge OSU and a huge Hawk fan, but AJ has missed a few more tackles than I've seen from some of the other candidates. Does anyone remember the Meatchicken game last year? AJ has great hands, good instincts and can shed blocks well...but I don't consider him the elite of THE elite. Is he a top 10 linebacker in the country...yeah. Is he a top 3? Not necessarily...arguments could be made either way.

It's easy to be blinded by our scarlet colored glasses and especially in light of recent events, OSU fans are notorious for getting worked up about being left out...but this is one of those situations where it's not biased voting, it's not an anti-OSU "conspiracy" and it's not just an attempt to get attention from the largest alumni base in the country...AJ Hawk just isn't a CLEAR CUT finalist. I wouldn't complain if he'd made it...I won't complain now that he didn't. I think it's borderline.

We have a fantastic linebacker...we don't need the national media to stroke our ego to prove it to anyone.

Matt Grootegoed better than A.J. Hawk? Get the fuck outta here...Matt Groupiegiveshead couldn't hold A.J.'s jock. Besdies, what the fuck kind of name is "Grootegoed" anyway?

Hey, methomps...wasn't that rep you gave me supposed to be a red one?

I think Derrick Johnson and Ahmad Brooks are no brainers. Below, I have listed players (All semi-finalists, some not) that could've been considered for the LAST remaining spot.

Michael Boley
Kevin Burnett
Channing Crowder
Will Derting
Chad Greenway
Matt Grootegoed
Spencer Havner
A.J. Hawk
Abdul Hodge
Lance Mitchell
Kirk Morrison
Odell Thurman
Leon Williams

Name one player in that list that is a clear cut choice for the third spot. Of those that I am familiar with (most of them), I could make an argument why everyone of them deserve to be considered. I'm not dissing Hawk, and I'm not really impressed with Grootegoed...I'm just saying it's not an outrage that AJ didn't make the final cut.

AJ will be back

Not to look to next season by any stretch of the imagination, but it looks like Hawk wants at least 2 more games (including this year) vs scUM...

Junior linebacker A.J. Hawk, OSU’s leading tackler, yesterday vowed to return for his senior season.

"That’s crazy to me," he said of talk he might declare for the NFL draft next spring. "I still feel like a little kid hoping to get a scholarship. I can’t imagine trying to play in the NFL."

Asked whether he could be held to that vow, he said, "That’s fine, you can hold me to that."
