I thought I read somewhere that he had changed his mind and signed with the NFLPA because now it's possible to purchase a Skins jersey with his name and number on it. Either I misread it or he put a stipulation in his agreement.

He's on this year's rosters in the videogames. When he signed his contract extension, they included the NFLPA forms too. He was pissed when he later found out that he had signed those forms as well. I guess the infamous Poston brothers missed that one.

Why would he not want to be a member of the NFLPA?
Then he can't privately license his name. It's all about greed. If someone signs with the NFLPA, then their names can be marketed by anyone that pays for the use of the NFLPA license. If the player doesn't sign with them, then his name can only be used if the individual player signs their own deal(s) for the use of their name.

Wouldn't he lose money under this deal? I can see Jordan and Bonds opting out but would he be able to as an individual be able to makes as much money?
I don't know how the athletes make the extra money if they don't get the lucrative individual deals. I know that Jordan and Shaq did OK, because they were able get private videogame deals in addition to all of their other endorsement deals. I don't understand Arrington though, because I don't know how he expects to get the additional income. Unless he's already secured some private deals that exist at a regional level.
