Latwan has switched to Miami(Fl)
Seventeen newcomers arrived Tuesday, but coach Randy Shannon told WQAM 560 that six others "are waiting on [NCAA] Clearinghouse issues.'' Among the six who did not report: Davis, Parade All-American safety Latwan Anderson (who is coming to UM on a track scholarship and expects to arrive in August) and Pembroke Pines University School defensive end David Perry (his high school coach said his academics are good and doesn't expect a problem).
Anderson doesn't know if he will play offense (receiver) or defense; there's a good chance he ends up at safety (where he had 11 interceptions in 2009) or cornerback. On the Sept. 11 UM-at-Ohio State game, the Ohio-based Anderson told Insidetheu.com, "If they give me a chance, I can be one of the reasons why we win that game . . . because I hate [the Buckeyes] so much.''
CHATTER
Ballyhooed freshman safety Latwan Anderson, rivals.com's 15th-best prospect in the 2010 recruiting class, has left the UM football team but remains on the track team, a UM official tells us. A UM source said Anderson is frustrated but should have known he likely would redshirt this season. UM is uncertain if he will return to the football program.
Latwan Anderson?s days as a Miami Hurricane footballer might be over
by Jorge Milian
?.Latwan Anderson?s days as a UM football player appear to be over. UM coach Randy Shannon told me on Tuesday that Anderson hasn?t practiced with the Hurricanes ?for the last two or three weeks.? I asked Shannon if there was any possibility Anderson would return this season. ?Not right now,? Shannon said. ?He?s on track scholarship. I can?t do nothing with him.? So might Anderson return for spring football? ?Don?t know,? Shannon responded. ?He?s on track. If track wants to let him play, they?ll let him play. I can?t tell a kid to practice. When somebody is footing the bill, they call the shots. That?s how it is.? There is no shortage of Internet chatter that Anderson, ranked by Rivals as the nation?s 15th-best high school player last year, was unhappy with his situation on the football team. Shannon did not address those rumors. But it seems unlikely that the football team and track program, run by coach Amy Deem, could not come to some sort of arrangement. After all, the football team provides the men?s track team with some of its best talent.
Shannon not saying much about Anderson
by: Steve Gorten October 20th, 2010
CORAL GABLES ? Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon wasn?t in much of a mood to talk about DB Latwan Anderson after practice Wednesday morning.
As I posted on a blog Tuesday night, and others have also reported, Anderson stopped practicing with the team a few weeks ago. A source close to the program told me teammates he?s unhappy with the coaching staff.
Anderson, who?s on a track scholarship, has been working out with the track team. He is considering transferring.
Anyhow, here is Shannon?s exchange with a reporter who asked him about Anderson on Wednesday:
Is there a possibility that Latwan Anderson might return for spring football?
?I don?t know. He is in track. Spring is when track comes in. He is on track scholarship, they are paying his bills. That?s track. He?ll be full-time in track until the season is over.?
Why did he leave football practice?
?To concentrate on track. Track is paying his bills so he went to track to participate in that. To get ready for track season.? [Other UM football players who are track standouts finish football season and then move over to track without conflict]
Is there a possibility he might transfer? Are you concerned about that?
?He is on track. I have nothing to do with track.?
Is he a guy you could use in football once you get him?
?He is on track scholarship. I told you guys in August, said it in September, said it in October. Now he is practicing track.?
When the 5 star prospect from Ohio committed to the Hurricanes everyone was excited. Latwan was an All American at the High School Level, and had offers from numerous schools.
It now looks as though Latwan will be taking his abilities elsewhere in 2011. Anderson will not have to sit out a year since he was on a track scholarship this past season. Stay tuned to HSN to see what happens. We are working on getting an interview with the talented star in the near future.
With Latwan gone Miami will be very depleted at the cornerback position. Brandon Harris probably will elect to return for his senior season, but other than Harris the only other corner with game experience on thr roster will be Brandon McGee. Devonta Davis, and Keion Payne have yet to play a snap yet, and A.J. Highsmith and Lee Chambers were playing other positions in 2009. Eduardo Clements may get a look at corner. Otherwise it is very important that Miami brings back recent decommit Albert Jean Louis or some of the other highly touted corners in the class of 2011.
