Latest coaching salaries from USA Today.

This makes Fickell the #79 highest paid.. wonder if that's got an end date and was a carryover deal when he was interim and grandfathered into Def Coord role

FWIW, Dantonio's $5.6m is a one-shot deal for 2014. His original $1.9m reported last year was given a $1.7m bump after winning the conference and the Rose Bowl, putting him at $3.6m; 4th in the conference and 13th nationally. He is receiving an additional $2m bonus this season only for completing his previous contract.

Dantonio's the 2nd highest paid coach in the country? Holy hell. Look, they had a remarkable season last year, and he has done a solid job of raising their profile from what was essentially being a punchline, but cripes. Will be interesting to see what he does when Narduzzi moves on.

I think he's a solid coach. But, last year's special season was , in my IMO, one of those rare years where you have an unusually high number of upper-class players that have been able to gel through several years. They're still very good this year, but not on the same level, and they'll be losing most of the remnants of what made 2013 so special for them. I think Dantonio is more of an 8-5/9-4 type coach than 12-1/11-2 type. Sure, he's managed to sprinkle in a couple of really good years, but it's been interrupted by some relative stinker (6-7/7-6) type seasons. Narduzzi's D made last year special, and I don't think he'll be there much longer. That salary is nuts.

*EDIT-- in after Dryden's post above.
