A) Have some respect for the man, whatever your feelings were about his comedy or his solution to his problems.

B) I found him supremely gifted and irritating, though not always simultaneously. He was far better as a comedian with a framework to keep him reeled in.

C) conversely his manic style worked wonders in some serious acting roles as well as some of the comedies.

D) @Thump feigning outrage over being labeled tactless is rich. That describes 99% of his posts here (though more are centered around mind numbing off topic shenanigans)

A guy I do not know dies, I do not fawn over him like the masses, so I now lack tact? Got it.
interjecting in a thread about someone's recent death just to say something negative about the very nature of the person is not the same as "not fawning."

You posted notice of his death in a celebrity death pool thread and want to talk about tact? Got it.:roll1:
i would suggest that you go back through the thread. if you did that, you would find out that i wasn't the one to post notice but actually the second person to respond.

If you thought he was funny, maybe you should teach ADHD students...
and post while i'm teaching? please tell me, thump, how does one do that without facing the consequences?

I think Thump is making the fair point that any post in any "celebrity death pool" thread is relieved of the obligation to be "tactful". I'm sure there's an online obituary somewhere where we can all tactfully express our regrets to his surviving loved ones... The man was a major Hollywood celebrity for decades, I don't think it's that surprising that someone's first response upon hearing of his death is to say "I didn't like his work".

As for me, I loved the guy, and so many of the quirky roles he took on. Fisher King is truly one of the greats.

the part about farleys last days....awful

I used to work in the Hancock while Farley lived there. Saw him quite often in the lobby. Suffice it to say, were the death pool thread around then, he'd a been my pick... but I would have had the benefit of trading on inside information.

I always tried to reconcile seeing him like that with how I must look taking the garbage cans out to the curb after I just woke up. That said, every time I tried to do that I came back to, 'but I'm not getting up at 1:00 PM every day.'
