Part 1 of the Lonesome Dove mini-series. I thought 25 years would be long enough to have recovered from the trauma inflicted by the original viewing of the final scene of that installment. Holy fuck. I was wrong.

Lincoln: It was good for what it was, certainly not "greatest movie of all-time" territory, but Lewis was of course great bringing him to life and I enjoyed Tommy Lee Jones as the crotchety old Stephens. Probably only a see once type of movie, but good for that. 4/5

Vile: Little indie from the Saw bent. You either like these kinds of movies or you don't, but if you do, it was, I would say, above average. Nothing spectacular, but for what they has to work with, it wasn't bad. 2.5/5

Last Circus: Holy cow was this fucked up :lol: If you like ultra-violent clowns fighting over a chick with some deep-rooted symbolism of Spanish history (and a few actual events) buried in between, this movie is for you. People seem to either love or hate this movie, but I thought the acting was really good and it was definitely back comedy-esque in its grotesqueitude, which is right in my wheelhouse. 3.5/5

Went to the midnight premier for The Hobbit, and...WOW! I really don't know how I'm going to manage the year long wait for the next one, especially since the extended edition of this one isn't due out until close to the opening of the next one.

I've heard the 48 fps is really a difference. I've even heard some people have been vomiting from it. Did you notice it?

Watched the last three segments over the last week. Part four was rough. :(

Watched the Hobbitt last night and liked it. I would give it an 8. A little long and wordy but I liked it nonetheless. I must have watched the 'normal' version because I didn't notice anything different about this movie versus any other I've watched.

Euro time again this weekend:

The Monitor: This is the new Swedish movie with Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and a Norwegian character actor dude that I really liked in Next Door. The acting was superb...Noomi is not only hot, in a sort of subtle way, but she is one hell of an actress, and the rest of the cast actually does a pretty good job too, including the lead character dude. The premise itself of the movie was also not all that bad. All that said, the story absolutely bit the weenie. I mean, I got done and I was like "Yeah fucking right" which is sad, because that's the last reaction they were going for. 2.5/5 only because I am convinced I could watch Noomi act out anything (and the guy is really good too, that's 2 good performances out of 2 I've seen), but she/they needs to pick a WAY better script next time.

Hollow: This little Brit film is from the Tribeca film festival. It is a found footage type of movie, so if you don't like those, you won't like this. But if you do like those, you will probably like this, as I thought it was one of the better ones out there. It got horrible reviews on IMDB, but I think people just didn't get it, and especially the subtleties of it. It was Blair Witch with some actual character backstory, and it was Paranormal Activity with something more than jump shots (though I didn't mind the plot of the first couple of those either). What makes this movie is the character inbreeding (figuratively speaking) and the final idea that it's not only the dark spirit to be afraid of...so in some ways it is also like the Walking Dead in that premise. Now I don't want to build it up too much, but for a little indie with a couple of hot girls and only 4 real actors, I thought it was actually quite entertaining. Reaches my 3/5 threshold, which means it was well worth 90 minutes.
