Wall-E

How does this movie have a few bad reviews? You are not human and/or you do not have a soul if you don't like this movie. The only bad thing about it is that there was a person in production with the last name Henne.

Golden Compass. Free rental from library, waste of the energy/gas picking it up.

A number of talented actors in painfully contrived roles and grinding through awkward dialogue. Despite the vitriolic origin of the series, I liked the concept of the movie. Horribly executed.
Take your friends, your family your kids etc. See it. Everything Pixar touches turns to gold and this movie is no exception.
Looking forward to it. Ratatouille was the first exception to the rule, but not bad by any stretch.

10,000 BC

Went in with pretty low expectations given the universally negative reviews. Was pleasantly surprised. Basic "boy chases kidnapped girl" story, but the visuals made it worthwhile.

Try Stardust instead.

It's not a great film but it's fun which Golden Compass completely fails at.

Movie

I saw a movie over the weekend. It was at the same time corny, historic, well acted and in many ways a very good movie.

The movie was Race to Space. James Wood played a German scientist in the beginning of America's space race. While he wasn't named Werner Von Braun, his character was certainly supposed to be him. Also in the movie were Alex. D. Linz and Annabeth Gish. The movie was about the Mercury Program to put a man in space and the chimpanzee trained to ride the first capsule into space. There is sabotage, human pride and competition, and father discovering his son, a boy and his pet chimp and American achievement all thrown together. The chimp and the boy steal the show but James Wood is the glue that holds this movie together. Corny to the nth degree at times, but well acted and a look at the historic struggle to step into space.

We seem to forget at times how much America achieved when we put our minds to the task. We should never forget that the German scientists who came to America were the backbone of the U.S. in space.

In Bruges

I rented it since I've visited the Belgian town a couple of times but was surprised how good it was. Recommended for anyone who likes dark comedies, a bit of graphic violence and midgets.

Exactly right. Very offbeat and enjoyable. The great thing was my wife picked it out.
