Huh, I've read that Golden Compass has been a bust at the box office. Is that true? The movie must suck or be unappealing if nobody wants to pay to see it.

And should we be shocked at the highly negative reactions of some here? Especially by those who obviously haven't even seen the movie?

If the subject matter upsets you(the role of organized religion in controlling peoples lives) then please, don't go see it.
