OK, Baskin, as watched sober. It is hard to describe. One thing that makes it interesting to me is that I like to see how different cultures view hell: what does it look like, what do people do to get there, what happens to people. This was a Turkish vision, so it might not surprise that it was heavy on sex as a sin. Also interesting was the actor who played the priest...apparently it wasn't a make up job, he has a rare disorder and really looks like that. Otherwise, you can see ifluences from other movies, from Goodfellas to Hellraiser. And Eli Roth was somehow involved, so there was going to be a ceiling. Still, worth a look, if not all of the hype.

0/5 - yuk:

1/5 - Not worth 90-120 minutes:
Carol-very underwhelmed; never felt it
James White-lead actor was excellent; but that was it
Taxi (by Panahi)
Mistress of America
Queen of Earth

2/5 - Eh
Mediterranea
Testament of Youth

3/5 - worth the time
Intern-actually liked this one
Brooklyn-similar to Longest Ride
Bone Tomahawk

Saw Hardcore Henry last week. Very interesting... I saw it in DBox, which basically is the chairs that move and vibrate. It was pretty damn cool in DBox, but I'm not sure if it would have been as enjoyable without it. Since the entire movie is shot in the first person, the DBox nailed the feeling of being the main character.

The Invitation: holy absolute hell. I loved it. Premise is simple enough, couple loses a son, wife disappears, then 2 years later, reappears with new husband, and invites old friends, including ex and new GF, to dinner. After that...wowza. If you liked The Gift, I did too but I thought this was better. Major bonus for John Carroll Lynch sighting. Easily a 4/5, one of my favorite movies I've seen this year.
