still think its a fantastic movie
I have tried watching this movie 4 times now. I get bored about 20 mins in and go find something else. I think I need to struggle through it because I have heard a lot of good reviews.

Watched The Black Hole from 1977 last night.

The Black Hole came out in 79.

I have very clear memories of being excited about getting the action figures (V.I.N.CENT., Maximilian & S.T.A.R) because no new Star Wars figs had come out for a while.

I was also probably the only kid in the world who thought V.I.N.CENT & B.O.B. were much cooler than R2 & 3PO.

You weren't alone there. I had a Black Hole TV tray that was a treasured part of my childhood, but yeah it was like none of my friends even heard of the movie.

If a movie was even remotely sci-fi in the late 70's/early 80's I saw first it in a theater...

Battle Beyond the Stars, Moonraker, Time After Time, Flash Gordon, Hangar 18, Looker, Outland, Scanners, Escape From New York, Megaforce, Alien, Mad Max, The Road Warrior, Heartbeeps, Blade Runner, The Witch Mountain flicks, The Cat From Outer Space, Saturn 3, Metalstorm: The Destruction of Zared Zyd, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Buckaroo Bonzai, Ice Pirates, Dreamscape, Last Starfighter, Philadelphia Experiment, Altered States, 1984, Capricorn 1, Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Battlestar Gallactica & Buck Rogers (both were releases as movies before the respective series started)

etc

my God. My dad took my brother and I to see that in the theaters. He made us leave halfway through and still calls it the worst movie he's ever seen.

I just saw Killing Fields for the first time. For whatever reason I always put off watching the film. I was too young at the time to see it, and always put off watching it for one reason or another. Anyway, it is essentially one of the best movies I have ever seen and a must see movie.

I also spent time researched the back story of the movie and people involved with it. The real life stories not only of the people the movie portrays but the life of actor/physician Dr. Haing Somnang Ngor (who won best supporting actor) is just as fascinating. The saddest thing is he survived the killing fields in real life (a time when 3 out of every 7 Cambodians were killed and the chance of living for an educated person like a physician, which he was, were close to zero), yet ended up being killed by worthless gang members in LA.

I could literally go on for a long time about this, but it certainly will come as old news to many of you. I am upset with myself for not knowing this stuff until now (I knew of the Cambodian massacres, but had not seen the movie or the stories behind it). If you have not seen this movie or the stories involved, you owe it to yourself to see it and learn about it. There are some artistic liberties taken (Sydney Schanberg wrote about the truth behind the movie if you want to read that), yet it is still an incredibly moving story that is very rooted in fact.

Saw "Capote" on Sunday. I have to admit, I thought this would bore the shit out of me, but it was surprisingly interesting for seemingly boring subject matter (in that way I would compare it with the King's Speech). Hoffman was of course brilliant, though the rest of the case was pretty mundane (I like Chris Cooper, was disappointed he didn't get to do more with his role). But the story was intriguing enough to keep me interested for almost 2 hours, which is saying something. I would give it a solid 3.5/5, leaning towards 4 except that the rest of the cast was pretty benign, either by ability or by script.
